What Type of Dog Do You Prefer? (It May Hold the Clue to Your Personality)

Do you love having a tiny pooch peeking out of your purse? Or do you prefer a bigger pup, preferably one who is always up for a game of Frisbee? Your answer to this question may say a lot about you. "We go for dogs that are a bit like us, just as we go for a romantic partner who is a bit like us," study researcher Lance Workman, a psychologist at Bath Spa University in the United Kingdom, told LiveScience.

dogs

Workman conducted a survey of 1,000 owners of purebred dogs in collaboration with the Kennel Club, and found that owners of toy dogs (like Chihuahua-lover Paris Hilton) score high on "openness," meaning how intellectually curious, open to new experiences and appreciative of arts and culture a person is. (Does Paris Hilton really fit into this category?)

Along with toy dog owners, owners of gun dogs (such as the Labrador retriever or golden retriever) are the most agreeable. People who own pastoral breeds, including German shepherds and collies; or utility breeds, such as bulldogs, are the most extroverted. And the most emotionally stable people are likely to own hounds, including beagles, Afghans and greyhounds. So, spill it: What type of dog do you prefer?

If I were to have a dog, I would have a small dog. I'm not in a setting that would be good for a larger one. However, I did end up having to rehome my two little dachshunds. When I say rehome, I mean it. I didn't take them to a shelter. I did my research and ended up going through the Wyoming Dachshund and Corgi Rescue to find them an excellent home. My work and life schedules are too chaotic to have dogs. I'm always so pleased when I get updates on the dogs and hear how much fun they're having in their new home, where they have a backyard, other dogs to play with, and a nice retired couple to spoil them.
I have five cats. Cats work better for me because as long as the cat has food, water, and a litterbox, it doesn't care if you straggle in after being gone for a day, make sure it has food and water, and then go to bed. With a dog, you have to either have a big yard or the ability to take it out to do its business and get exercise several times a day.

My husband I were discussing that this morning. The difference in caring for a dog and cat. I have the one large dog and 4 cats. Cats are so independent and don't need much attention when your busy. But my dog, Trouble, is such a pest at times. Always wants to play or be petted. She's a winner though and she's loved to pieces..

I'm a bit leery of large dogs, especially guard dog types. When I was a child growing up in New Mexico, there were packs of wild dogs, no joke. They killed an elderly woman and a little girl in the area where I lived. But I try to keep an open mind and realize that most dogs aren't bad.

Which is not to say that you don't have an open mind. When I re-read what I wrote, I realized that it might come off as preachy and I didn't mean that.

Greyhounds make lovely gentle pets, and are great for those who are nervous or have a fear of dogs. Woody has made friends with several nervous/phobic adults and children, who now love and trust him.

I've never had a bad experience with dogs or anything, I just... freak out when I see them. Even tiny ones. Usually I just move away from the dog, but if it starts jumping out of me, I get really scared.
