What Turns You Off on a First Date?

The first date: Exciting as it is, it's absolutely crucial when it comes to landing a second date... and a potential relationship. Therein lies the problem. After conducting a loose poll, How About We has come up with a list of things you should not do on a first date. Read on, and let us know which one is a total turn-off for you.

1. Licking Your Fingers
Table manners are key from the get-go!

2. Cellphone Dependency
"Not being able to put your cellphone down for more than 5 minutes at a time is a huge turn-off, especially when you’re supposed to be getting to know someone," How About We says. We couldn't agree more ... if he's not paying attention to you on day one, what's it going to be like in six months?

3. Burping
Sometimes nature calls ... but try your best to hold it in on the first date.

4. Grabbing Food Without Asking
The first date is a little too early to be sharing entrees. Or even appetizers.

5. Saying It and Spraying It
Getting spit on takes us back to junior high, when everyone had a metal mouth. Not very sexy.

6. Tipping Poorly
Do your best not to look like a cheapskate if you want to score a second date.

    None of the above:

The date ends immediately after she asks me how much money I have.

When guys talk about their ex alot during the first date -there's nothing worse than that. Except maybe people who make noises when they eat.

Burping, tipping poorly and cell phone dependency were my top 3. I can understand an accidental burp, it's happened to me before, but when you do it intentionally or not caring then that's a big no-no...Other than that, the cell phone dependency and tipping poorly are huge turn offs. If he can't put the cell phone down and give you some one-on-one time then he's not that into you.

I wouldn't like any one of these to happen on a first date, but to me the top 3 baddies are "Grabbing food without asking" "Saying it and spraying it" and of course "Cell phone Dependency"

I know none of us are perfect but can't we at least try to be gentlemen/ladies?

The other behaviors sound awfully unpleasant; I know i kissed a lot of frogs way back when, but I don't think anyone ever burped,(not on the 1st date!) licked their digits, grabbed more than a fair share of the nachos, or sprayed me. Cellphones were not commonplace before I met my husband, (er, prince!) but a few did have car phones - clunky and unsexy, but did add a bit of the wow factor! Anyway, these oral behaviors speak more to poor parenting than who a person is inside... (And the right woman can work to gently and subtly change that "beastly behavior") Tipping appropriately shows you are smart, that you appreciate others - and that you understand the way the service industry works. It is an excellent litmus test for a 2nd date!

See that seems like it would back fire for example if the waitress is a cute young lady , and I give a big tip the first thing that I can think about is my date getting upset with me for giving " THAT WOMEN" such a nice tip.

That is why i just write it down on bill with out her seeing it .

These are all disgusting and reason enough for me to not go out with him ever again. If he does this already on the first date then what will he do on the second or third? fart or perhaps ask to borrow money? Gross.

My mom always said to us kids, "Chew your food 10 times, and more if you need to." she says this to cut off the choking factor. When my dad eats a hamburger, it's gone in less than a minute. So do this to avoid spraying.

It was a first date with a good looking 22 year old. She belched a couple of times and after the 3rd I was ready to take her home. There wasn't a 2nd date because I figured the pooting couldn't be far behind.

It wasn't a quest for a woman with no gas. It's all about manners and not sharing all your personal secrets on date #1. I could understand one slipping out but after the 3rd it was a major turnoff. I thought there was more class than that. After the honeymoon is over your certainly more understanding.

All above would be very annoying or embarrassing on any date. I would calmly tell my date, possibly never date that person again. They have already shown their character. Tipping poorly shows lack of respect, to you as the date, lack of class, and someone too cheap.

All the above already show the person's bad manners. Speaking and spraying would make me sick. Obviously this person does this often. Don't forget one is usually on their best behaviour on a first date. Grabbing food, no manners, poor upbringing. Burping out loud, disgusting. Tipping poorly, no class, no respect for the waiter or the date. The guy is cheap, dump him. Licking fingers is gross. Even eating ribs use a napkin. Cellphone dependency, very rude, does not care much about you. I think many women would have a problem with all the above.

When you pull out your cell friend it's pretty much telling the other person they have other places they want to be. That or saying they're boring.
