The first date: Exciting as it is, it's absolutely crucial when it comes to landing a second date... and a potential relationship. Therein lies the problem. After conducting a loose poll, How About We has come up with a list of things you should not do on a first date. Read on, and let us know which one is a total turn-off for you.

1. Licking Your Fingers
Table manners are key from the get-go!

2. Cellphone Dependency

"Not being able to put your cellphone down for more than 5 minutes at a time is a huge turn-off, especially when you’re supposed to be getting to know someone," How About We says. We couldn't agree more ... if he's not paying attention to you on day one, what's it going to be like in six months?

3. Burping
Sometimes nature calls ... but try your best to hold it in on the first date.

4. Grabbing Food Without Asking
The first date is a little too early to be sharing entrees. Or even appetizers.

5. Saying It and Spraying It
Getting spit on takes us back to junior high, when everyone had a metal mouth. Not very sexy.

6. Tipping Poorly

Do your best not to look like a cheapskate if you want to score a second date.

Look I'll play the game for interviews, etc...but lets be honest, that is all it is. It is nothing more than a social norm that doesn't say anything about you as a person. My parents raised me to have good manners, so it stuck...that doesn't mean I don't think it is ridiculous and pointless.

I didn't see the cellphone dependency; definitely a show stopper....i'd be leaving on that. But tipping poorly is a reflection on how he'll treat you down the road.

that and spitting when you talk. tipping poorly could be taken a couple of ways because some waitresses suck and sometimes they deduct gratuity from your bill and if they say that on the reciept i dont leave a tip myself. licking your fingers, grabbing food without asking and burping doesnt bother me at all. -shrugs- especially if its beer and bbq :P my main cut off to dating a person is when your pulling out all your romantic gestures or taking someone out to eat and trying to have quality time with someone you like and they are yapping on their cel phone. Really lets you know where you stand in the lines of importance.

the phone thing is the worst, IMO, but licking fingers? well, that would depend on what you're eating... if we're getting drinks, and decide to get some snacks to go with, well... bar food, is finger food... but in a fancy restaurant for dinner, use your napkin please!

I haven't had a date with this issue but I do hate when people are always texting and checking there phones when they have company, especially during movies.

I hate when guys forget how to act in front of ladies. If I'm being polite and courteous you should too. Don't be a nasty pig, you have the rest of your time to act like that so just keep it civil for the rest of our date.

Seriously? When you're on a date you are supposed to be FOCUSED on your DATE, not some inanimate object! If your mother didn't teach you this basic rule of manners then you don't deserve to be on that date. While everything on the list above could be considered as being a turn off, not focusing on your date is a real deal breaker. If you love your phone so much then quit wasting my time and stay home and play with it instead, I'll even remind you to recharge your battery if that helps with you not wasting my time.....

The cell phone has breeded a generation of rude individuals. People think nothing of whipping out their cells while in a conversation and completely ignoring the rest of the table or worst yet, having conversations during movies or theatre events. Makes me want to remove it from their hands, preferably by chainsaw, and shove it down their throats.

These are all pretty bad, and the survey may be appropriate for a ranking rather than a select-the-most. Responses likely reflect the offense suffered most recently or remarkably. At any time, any of these might rank first for any of us. How about the following for inclusion: Self-obsession (many behaviors really are subsets of this and it might not be an appropriate category), Ignoring the other's statements and rolling ahead with own narrative no matter what, Repeating (is this one a form of mental illness ? or just not knowing what else to say ?)

If it's not your child or work related it rude.But more than that my ever increasing list would be ;Not being a good conversationalist or limited subject matter.,Being rude to waitstaff,Drinking too much,Vulgarity and Generally any ungentleman-like behavior makes it the first date/last date combo deal

Actually what turns me off is unasked for conversation they say silence is golden and on first dates with me it will be because all the time you dont have to run your trap observe biody language and demeanor thats a story in itself!

This bothers me sooooo much. And what I can't understand is it is always the people who don't need to be on the phone.
If you are a heart surgeon and a heart is being delivered for one of your patients then ok, take the call, but if you are a stock boy at Lowes, I'm sure its not an emergency.
