I needed a job, one that would be easy on my joints and would allow me to have any kind of set schedule. I am perfectly suited for it in temperament and personality, and I love my weekends, so I have been at this for 2 years. I can see myself doing it for a long time.
I have always found the human mind fascinating and exciting, so I decided to major in the Psychiatric field to help people and to better understand what makes us humans tick.
The mind works in such a mysterious way, that one truly NEVER will understand 100% the intricate workings of such a fascinating part of the human body. We can try and strive to learn more, but will probably never reach that goal.
My interest in teaching went back a long ways. I was wavering between getting a degree in counseling or social work, but my then husband's stepmother talked me into teaching. She had taught for years. Ironically, I am now a school librarian in the same district where she taught. I always wondered why she stayed out in the rural district, rather than teach in a school closer to where she lived, but now I know. The sense of community is great. There are great people and great students in the small district. I'm lucky and grateful to live only about a 10 minute drive from school, too.
I love it. I am so grateful to have a job I enjoy. The kids are so funny sometimes. Yesterday, the kindergarten class decided to be on a compliment competition. One said, "I like your hair today (I was wearing a little different)." The next said, "I like your shirt." Not to be outdone, one finally adds, "I just like everything about you."
How could I not be thankful and happy to have a job like that!
I am truly grateful for it. I've had ups and downs, even with a job I love, but duirng one 'down' where I was shuttled between two schools and didn't have enough time at one of them to even do my job, I finally learned that sometimes, the only thing I can change about a situation is my own attitude. When I try to be positive when those stormy times come, I have a better time and find the situation becomes manageable. It was truly a blessing when I finally realized that I have the power to change ME, when I can't change IT.
I was unemployed and a friend said that a substitute rural mail carrier position was available. I took the test and was in the top three and got the job. When the regular carrier retired, I became full time.
My high school had a placemen service for the secretarial studies grads. They got me my first job with a big law firm and I've been a legal secretary, in one firm or another, ever since.
I researched different trades when in High School. Worked for a plumber for awhile. Took up HVAC/R In trade school, after high school. Took night courses for many years to get advancement. Made a good living for 40 yrs.
My Uncle started teaching me how to service my own old car to save money, first oil changes, then he taught me how to fix brakes and do brake jobs, do tune ups, and other stuff.. he told me I was naturally mechanically inclined, so I decided to take an automotive mechanic course for 2-yrs. and after 6-yrs. of being a service mechanic for a Ford dealer I went back to school to learn Automotive design, and restoring for 22 -weeks, I now manage a Classic Car restoration business and I am also the shop manager and shop foreman. and now have right at 1266-resto's and complete rebuilds behind us. our Latest. went out last Thursday
How could I not be thankful and happy to have a job like that!
