WHAT OR WHO INSPIRES YOU THE MOST?

ANGEL 2012/04/10 14:07:49
Is there a person in your life that gives you inspiration? Is it a particular cause? What or who has inspired you the most?

NOTE: There are so many polls on SH that divide people and I just want to change the
tide.
You might find that you have more in common with people than you previously thought - whether it be a democrat, republican, libertarian, involved in Christianity, Scientology, Atheism, Muslims, Buddhism etc.
You!

My Wife, she helped me become positive and to remain that way. That way I can help others find their path!

My parents who encouraged me to be myself, and taught me to encourage others to do the same.

I am inspired by people like you Angel - who fight for religious tolerance and putting aside the hatred. I am inspired when polls such as "enough is enough" gets almost 300 responses, and when your poll asking for the end of "hate speech" gets over 400 responses - the majority in support of ending the hate.

Off the top of my head, I'd say my husband.

And Angel, don't ever again accuse me of being prejudiced against you because you're not a Christian. I never would have accepted your friend request if I was.

My scrape with you had to do with your selection of an offensive photo to represent MY religion. Never did I ever say anything bad about yours.

You are right Jen - and I apologize. That was wrong.

However, you accused me of being a liar and a hypocrite. You have insulted me. I think an apology on your end is also in order. (And for anyone reading this who does not know the history - the photo did not appear to be offensive unless you knew the artist and the origin which I had no way of knowing. I immediately apologized and had the photo removed.)

Moving on - It is a beautiful thing that you have a husband who has inspired you. My husband inspires me as do my children.

I will never, ever apologize for vociferously objecting to foul images being used to represent anyone's religion. Sorry, but that's just me.

Especially when it takes "hours" to remove it, after the foul nature of the image is revealed to the poster.

It shouldn't take "hours." Minutes, if not seconds, is more like it. I'm sure you know where the "delete question" button is. It should have been used immediately.

I didn't ask that you apologize for speaking out against the image - but that you apologize for having insulted me by accusing me of being prejudiced, a liar and a hypocrite. I explained to a zillion times that once you put up a poll - you cannot edit out the picture on the 'choices' menu. I immediately asked SH for help and within a couple of hours or less it was gone. I also pointed out to you that over 70 people responded to the poll before it was brought to my attention - many who were Christians and didn't take note of the image. Being that it was possible to change the image so quickly, and being that the poll was enjoyed by so many (now over 300 responses!) I found that it wasn't necessary to delete it.

We've been over this privately many many times - now please can we just move on?

I'm not sure whether your silence is an oversight or if you are ignoring me. You accepted my friendship request again, and that is certainly an indication that we are moving forward. However, there was still the above communication that was left unresolved. We were both insulting and hurtful to the other. I apologized for doing so. Will you do the same?

It doesn't appear that Angel was or would ever ask anyone to apologize for objecting to foul images. She has been quite critical of others for doing so and I know this lady and she is not a hypocrite.

In keeping in line with this poll topic, I must say that one thing that inspires me is when people who have disagreements can own up to their part in it and be a big enough person to step forward and apologize. it takes 2 to tango - and I hope that you and Angel are able to resolve your disagreements and move on as friends.

One other point: You asked that I never again accuse you of being prejudiced because I am not a Christian". I am going to ask you to never again accuse me of being prejudiced because you are. My dearest friends are Christian. I rent a room to a Christian who I love like a brother. I work with devout Christians. I find that my life is enriched because of the diverse people in my life. I have posted numerous polls about religious tolerance and unity. Just as you were insulted by my accusation - I was equally insulted by yours.

It is time for apologies on both ends. It is time for us both to move forward. I was wrong and I do apologize.

My parents had the biggest influence in my life. Both were loving strong people that never gave up.
Although they passed away many many years ago. the person I am today is because of the parents I had in my past.
If I live to be half the woman my Mom was, half as good of a parent and grandparent, I will be happy.
Nobody can take the place of my parents.

Both of my parents have also passed away. My mom was also an incredible inspiration in my life. My sister and I shared a room - and on cold winter mornings she would wake us by putting socks on our feet and bringing us hot cocoa. At night she would cuddle with me and sing - then cross the room to my sister's bed and do the same thing. When I had children, I would sit on the floor in the nursery and sing them those same songs. (Thank goodness I can carry a tune). She was warm and loving.

My dad was also very loving - but unfortunately he cheated on my mom with her best friend and my best friend's mother. It was very tragic for both families. Still, I never doubted that he loved me, and he had a great sense of humor. I take the plus points and try to incorporate them into my life.

I'm sure you are more than just half the woman you mom was, SA. Much more.
