A major volcanic eruption at Yellowstone Park.

Where I live there is very little in the way of natural disasters that happen here at all. But a major event in Yellowstone would take out the entire midwest and destroy a massive area as it did once befor.

It depends - for the area where I live, it's the tornado, and then earthquake
For my family in the south, it's the tornado and the hurricane mostly
Then there's that super volcano out Yellowstone way.....if it goes, my state's in big trouble from what I've learned....
It appears that I lost a Sodahead friend in the quake and tsunami that hit Japan a little over a year ago.....I miss you, Miki C.

Ah, ok. Solar flares, comets, and asteroids are the only things I can think of that would endanger us since all the other stars are probably too far away.

Earthquakes can effect a large area. They are unpredictable and come without warning. At least with Tornadoes and hurricanes you have some warning and can be prepared. I am afraid that I would be buried under the rubble of a building for several days without food or water. That is why I fear earthquakes.

Earthquakes are very scary and can start tsunamis as well. Anyone who has lived through one knows the feeling of complete helplessness. They should be feared the most.

Here in Hawaii....Earthquakes, Hurricanes and a Tsunami

The hurricane and the Tsunami you can prepare for but the Earth Quake you can not.

All of them are bad, but the one that is going on right now and nobody seems to realize just how dangerous it really is. It is the ice melting off the island/continent of Greenland.

The weight of that ice is 1.5875 x 10 to the 18th power pounds. I don't even know the word that describes that much weight. But it is enough to Cap/plug at least 11 major volcanoes from erupting underneath the ice. That much weight is also deforming the crust of the earth and as the ice melts the earths crust is going to "rebound" back into its normal position. The result will be a bending of the North American Continent right up the middle of the US. The New Madrid Fault is an extremely active fault and is on one of the thinest parts of our continents crust.

I'd say that the concept of global warming took on a new face when I saw this and it scares me silly as to what my great grandchildren may experience.

Sorry about that. But it is really quite a thing that is not being addressed.

There is an ancient North Ameican Indian ledgen of a time when the whole world will shake and the "land will be split in two" and a "new sea will form in the middle of the land" And all who were alive but a very few will be dead.

It may be that this was the way North America was BEFORE the last major ice age and the Native North American Indian ledgens are describing that. There is some evidence to support that in the land on both sides of the Mississippi.

"and all who were alive but a very few will be dead". When you said that, did you mean very few will live?
  • sjalan JoshuaH... 2012/03/28 04:46:19

YES. Based upon everything I have seen and read on vulcunology and geology there will be four major ruptures in the earths crust. One in the US up the Mississippi. One at Yellowstone's Super volcano. 3 Majore volcano on Greenland and a rift some 400 miles long across centeral Russia. When it all settles down after about 20-30 years of eruptions those that survive will be around the equator. And not much else will have remained habitable.
