What kind of car should I buy?

Wicked (Holla Back Boy) February 18, 2008 03:20:52

I'm hoping to have $9,000 to buy a car with. So I figured I'd ask the wonderful non flaming members of sodahead. What kind of car would be better. Since I'm a truck type person and don't know that much about cars. I'm buying used so these cars are available for that price. I'm looking for gasmilage, and coupe, because I don't like sedans.

Jeep Wrangler, because people who drive Jeep Wranglers have kind of their own underground organization. We wave at each other when we pass on the road. It will make you feel separate from everyone else when you are driving.

if they came out with a fuel efficient wrangler I'd be all over it... but that kinda takes away of the off road points of it lol.

From EXPERIENCE, I know that you will be better off with an Import than a GM.

(Sorry, Detroit - you've left me on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck one too many times :-(

Don't buy a Hyundai. Too new a brand.
I'd go with something people love to work on. That way, if you got to get work done, you can hem-haw around a little after the estimate and they'll cut you a break just to get under your hood, if you know what I mean...

there ya go. Go to the scrap yard and find which car has the most parts layin around. Then buy a car that you know you can source parts for!

    Wicked (Holla Back Boy)
Lol, I have 5 scrap yards within 5 mile range.... I've spent lots of time in them for my truck. Basicly anything newer then my truck they have. One even has Porche, lol. but they scraped anything older then 93 which my truck was on the line for. due to the rising cost of metal.

Yup, one of the many reasons I want to upgrade, Though i'm going to restore my truck after i'm out of college... going to make it a hybrid between old and new parts. "Most s-10 and Sonoma parts are interchangeable no matter what the year, just need some modifications"

We almost bought a Firebird to put the engine into the van, but the guy who said he'd do it chickened out. Everybody has chickened out on putting fuel injection in the beast. Wish I knew how.

surprising.... basicly all you need to do is strip everything out of the firebird, including the computer, and put it into the van. It's a tuff job, but you need the firebird's computer to run the fuel injection on time. Unless it's like my s-10 which is CFI, Fuel injected, except runs like a carburetor. was invented when Fuel injection was first hitting the market.

Nothing Yet, Can't find a car that I see as a good deal/ that I like. Something always makes me want to not buy it, "Denting, Mileage, Rust, Broken down, Insain pricing" Just everything points me away from the ones I find around here.

and by denting... a few dings are ok... but when the whole quarter panel is caved in and they say the car has not been in an crash... That kinda says stay away from the dealership.

hee hee. We got a jeep for so cheap we made a vacation out of going to get it, and nearly that firebird for less than the cost of engine and leather seats, but maybe it's regional.

You can get a Porsche Boxster - late ninties. It's the same body style as today. They drive like a slot car. They are good on gas and they run for 250,000 miles or more.

Saturn (used) Very good cars!! If you can find an '03 L200 or L300, that's be awesome. I have an L200 (03) that I got back in 02 and I paid 21K for it but now they are going for about $7,950...Here's a picture of one (looks just like mine but my windows are tinted black)
    For $7950

It is a sedan I think though.

    The gas milage is great!!!
