Question Living

What is your typical response to doing something new and unfamiliar?

Allison Mack July 23, 2007 16:00:12

“If you want to take your mission in life to the next level, if you’re stuck and you don’t know how to rise, don’t look outside yourself. Look inside. Don’t let your fears keep you mired in the crowd. Abolish your fears and raise your commitment level to the point of no return, and I guarantee you that the Champion Within will burst forth to propel you toward victory.”
- Bruce Jenner

I find this quote so incredibly inspiring! I realized that I have only ever really done what feels comfortable in my life. I have never put myself in a position where I’m doing something that I have never done before. I have done this knowingly because the idea of looking like I don’t know what I am doing scares the heck out of me. After realizing this, I feel that limiting myself is ridiculous!

I am just shooting myself in the foot because… how can I ever grow if I never challenge myself. How can I ever know the depths of me if I spend my whole life skimming the surface and doing what is comfortable. So, I have decided to branch out. I will be...

watch and learn from others who have similar experience, always calculate the risk, and make sure you run again when you fail.

I like my comfort zone, I rarely do new things

I find I do this with acting, I stopped acting to ride horses in 6th grade and felt that I am not good enough to do it. I'm going into film for school and I am trying to be behind the camera even though I truly want to be the one in front of it, but I don't believe I am good enough, also because I am extremely self-concious and don't believe I am beautiful enough to be in front of the camera.

    I carefully weigh the options

I love to try new things even if i'm scared at the beginning. I see for/against and i go! This year (im September) i'm going to try and i'm very excited. I will do the better i can (i don't know if it's English...sorry i don't speak English very very well). I'll use my strengh at 200%...it's an opportunity to me and i don't want to miss that.

    I dive head first

Dive headfirst into unfamiliar situations, it will strenghten your self-confidence and you as a person. That way you will be able to handle any unknown situation you all of a sudden might be in.
