What is your favorite Vacuum Cleaner

After graduating Syracuse University with a degree in smoking pot and alcoholism, I got my first job selling Kirby vacuums door to door in upstate NY. I'll tell you two very honest things: (A) Kirby makes a great vacuum cleaner which last forever; and (B) Never buy a NEW Kirby. Find a used Kirby for 1/15 the price. They are just as good and, as I already said, they last forever. I'll never forget that Kirby pitch. They give a bunch of desperate unemployed people a two day training session and then tell you to go home and "practice" on your family members. Guess what, about 1 in 3 families feel badly for the new Kirby salesman so they buy a Kirby (usually the only vacuum that guy will ever sell). The people who return they give you a set of cheap steak knives and a roll of paper towels. They drive you into middle class neighbor hoods and you walk up to the front door with the knives and paper towels. Knock, Knock, Knock... Door opens and you start: "Hello, mam, have you received your FREE GIFT TODAY??? (smile, smile, smile). "Ah, no." "YOU HAVEN'T???" (Surprise, surprise, surprise) WELL, FOR MERELY LISTENING TO A VERY SHORT PRESENTATION ABOUT A GREAT NEW HOME CARE PRODUCT THAT WILL MAKE TAKING CARE OF THE HOME A BREEZE, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO GET AND KEEP EITHER THIS GREAT SET OF STEAK KNIVES OR FREE SUPER-SIZED ROLL OF PREMIUM PAPER TOWELS. WHICH WOULD YOU PREFER????" (SMILE, SMILE, SMILE).
"Well, I guess we could maybe use the knives."
"MAM, THAT'S A VERY WISE CHOICE. HERE'S THE NEW KNIVES FOR YOU TO KEEP. JUST LET ME GET MY EQUIPMENT AND I'LL PUT ON A SHORT PRESENTATION AND BE ON MY WAY."

So then I lug in a new $600.00 Kirby still in the box and launch into a TWO HOUR high pressure sales pitch. You'd be surprised how many people wind up buying the Kirby they neither need nor really want. I actually think some folks bought just so that I would go away.

Nevertheless, Kirby used to be one hell of a vacuum. Of course, I did that job over 30 years ago, so things may be different now.
