The question is stated as if there is "A" god. God can be whatever those who have chosen or created the concept to be. Therefore the concept is more akin to being an adjective.

You can still define an adjective.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/27 13:46:29
    no no
The point was that god is really more akin to an adjective than a noun since the concept can be whatever one has chosen it to be. There was nothing about not being able to define the concept. Think car, and then think kind or make or car.

I believe the Question was, "What is YOUR definition of god?"
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/27 14:47:26
    no no
And i believe my answer was, a concept that can be whatever one has chosen it to be. Therefore the concept, whatever it is, is more akin to being an adjective than a noun.

Then you can never use the word, because you have no meaning for it.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/28 13:53:29 (edited)
    no no
Yes I can, because god is whatever I choose the concept to be. As it is to some still, fire, wind, rain, etc. The original post was more about the word, term, being more akin to an adjective than a noun. Make ones choice of what a god is then it certainly can be defined. The key here, is (IS) not what a god (DOES).
  • Dave Sa... no no 2012/06/28 13:55:32
Dave Sawyer ♥ Child of God ♥
I know who God is. But when you say it, you have no meaning for the word, so it falls on deaf ears.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/28 18:51:22

Obviously we are communicating or attempting to at different levels.I have never question your meaning of god. Where did that come from.? It is good that you know who your god is, as I stated earlier, that is an individual thing. And there was never any denial of a meaning. I simply stated that the word is more akin to an adjective than a noun.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/27 14:01:08

More an adjective than a noun, since the concept is whatever those who have chosen it to be is. Nothing to do with defining. Think automobile (car) then think make (Buick, etc.)
  • Dave Sa... no no 2012/06/27 14:45:05
Dave Sawyer ♥ Child of God ♥
Automobile can be defined, as well as Buick, though the word Buick merely refers to who manufactured the automobile in question.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/28 13:53:17
    no no
Automobile certainly can be defined, there are various makes. Buick is simply the name of one make., a noun. General Motors is the manufacturer. But that is not the issue. So are there various takes and makes of god, the adjective, Jehovah, Allah, etc. the nouns that define what someones god is.
  • Dave Sa... no no 2012/06/28 13:58:23
Dave Sawyer ♥ Child of God ♥
Buick is an adjective, a descriptor of an automobile.

Agreed. God, Allah, even Jehovah, are more descriptors than personal names.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/28 18:49:46

What are you talking about? It is apparent that what you feel or think that god is, it is the same for all. it is not. It is what you believe. Therefore defined the way that you define it. That is why is more akin to an adjective. It describes a concept that carries mythical and in some cases spiritual meaning to various cultures and individuals.
Buick is a noun, the name of a thing that thing is an automobile.

God is who He is, no matter what others may think He is or is not.

God does not change with the whims of man.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/29 00:16:12

I agree that god is what ever man has decided that god is. Just as you have. if your whim or whatever has decided for you, that is a good thing. There were so many until the Hebrews on more or less a whim decided that it would be better just to have one, so they embraced the one god concept. The god that you are referring to perhaps?

I do not agree. I said that God is who He is, and not what people would make of him. There never was more than one True God. The rest are pretenders. The Jews were not the first to know of God. Abraham was not a Jew, Moses was not a Jew, Adam and Enoch were not Jews.
  • no no Dave Sa... 2012/06/29 09:17:03

I used the term Hebrew. Why do you attempt to change the point and make it something else. The first appearance of the word "Hebrew" appears in Genesis 14:13 in association with Abraham.

"Then a fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. Now he was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner, and these were allies with Abram"

OK. Hebrew doesn't reach back to Moses, Enoch, or Adam.
Abraham was a Hebrew because he descended from Eber (or Heber) who descended from Noah. The point is, God is the same God who created Adam. He has had to reveal Himself over and over because men kept changing the teachings and ordinances He gave to Adam.
