What Is the Worst Company in America?

Each year Consumerist asks readers to identify the worst company in the United States. The process begins with readers submitting nominations, which Consumerist then sorts to create a March-Madness-style 32-company bracket. After that, readers vote round by round to determine the ultimate winner of the Golden Poo.

As of press time, the field has been narrowed to four semifinalists: Electronic Arts vs. Ticketmaster and Comcast vs. Bank of America. The two winners will go on to compete in the WCIA Final Fracas of Fury. Thus far, no company has ever won the WCIA title more than once. But Electronic Arts (2012 winner) or Comcast (2010 winner) could buck that trend.

Perhaps in hopes of swaying voters, Peter Moore, Electronic Arts’s Chief Operating Officer, took to his company’s blog with the post “We Can Do Better.” He admits some fault, writing: “I’ll be the first to admit that we’ve made plenty of mistakes. These include server shut downs too early, games that didn’t meet expectations, missteps on new pricing models and most recently, severely fumbling the launch of SimCity. We owe gamers better performance than this.”

Yet, Moore also questions the validity of the WCIA poll altogether. “This is the same poll that last year judged us as worse than companies responsible for the biggest oil spill in history, the mortgage crisis, and bank bailouts that cost millions of taxpayer dollars,” he wrote.

What do you think SodaHeads? What is the worst company in America?

I don't like the way WalMart treats it's employees but they sure have a lot more merchandise per square inch, many things are cheaper and I only go there as a last resort.

I cannot afford to shop anywhere else, and I know first hand how they treat their employees, I was one twice. They fired me after I had a baby because they changed my job title, then changed the job titles of those that I worked with, and eliminated my job when I tried to come back. Totally legal, and nothing I could do about it.

Maybe, but to say they are absolute worst company? It's not like they robbed your life savings or they robbed your checking account and took the money that you would have used to buy their game anyways.

This year, I would have to go with Microsoft. Their surface tablets are mostly defective, they've forced a substandard, rough around the edges, experimental OS on every new computer that runs windows, and they've locked most of them down so you can't switch to an older version. This will be the death of them...

Since I don't know anything about the others, I'm going with Bank of America. They can't ever seem to get anything right with the public and aren't smart enough to stay out of the news about it either. So, there you go!

Monsanto! This is hands down the most insidious company around. Biotech companies in general are not known for being strictly ethical but Monsanto takes the cake and are far and away ahead of any of their competitors in just flat-out evil doing. The worst thing is that there is NO WAY whatsoever to avoid coming in contact with either their poisons or their stranglehold on US politics and policies.

It's true. I did the same thing. I posted without looking at other posts and saw a couple that just started with Monsanto and used some of the same descriptives. No shame in that, it is what it is and they are what they are. It's scary how many people have never heard of them and yet have been injured by them.

Can you tell me what a 'lower market' is.

Phones under £150/$230, designed as cheap alternatives to upmarket phones, usually for children and people who don't want expensive phones. Ones like the Galaxy Ace, Apollo, Portal, etc.
