There isn't enough room to list everything. Ok, this one really gets me - that the majority of people who voted for Obama DID NOT vote for him just because he calls himself black.

That being soft on your kids means that beating them is better. NOT!

Funny you should mention that. I'm a dog trainer and we are absolutely not allowed to beat our dogs. We do behavior modification through a reward system that encourages the desired behavior and by ignoring the undesired and in rare occassions actually punishes the undesired action with things such as isolation from their handler(time out for dogs) removal of the reward( taking away their ball) or in most cases a sharp verbal reprimand(usually "No!". Obviously these exact methods aren't suitable for human children as they're much much smarter then dogs but you can clearly see parallels. I wonder why it is that we as modern age humans see that and accept that the best way to get a dog to do what we want( or the right thing) is to use this method but we still think beating human children is the best if not the only way to get them to behave?

Admittedly it requires far greater patience and discipline on your part. But I think the results are much better as I've seen dogs trained via complusion training and they just have the way about them that makes you think that if they got far enough away from their handler they wouldn't come back.

The huge difference is the communication. Dog's don't understand our words. You can't tell them what good values are. Really, they learn better behavior, but they don't learn all the other stuff you have to teach a child. I have many conversations with Zoe about good behavior and why it's important. That's the difference between a human child and a dog or other animal.

True dogs just make associations about what words mean based on our actions, for example if I said the word "window" everytime I made them sit they would assume that "window" meant sit or maybe that it means that I make them sit which is not the same as them just sitting of their own accord. But to every other human standing around window means window not sit. But since children are magnitudes smarter then dogs it means we shouldn't have to beat them, because we don't do it with dogs. I've tried to explain this to someone before but they just weren't hearing it and claimed that my children would be hooligans if I didn't. I still think its just a matter of patience or lack of on their part.

I know for a fact hitting does nothing because I was spanked very hard by my dad a few times in very early age. I don't even remember what I did wrong?? I remember the hurt and anger I had over being hit. And my parents taught me to never hit, but they could hit me? That infuriated me. Luckily my dad didn't believe in keeping it up when I got past 7 or 8 and it all stopped. But it still makes no sense. Why do it at all? Talking to me and punishing me in better ways would have been more effective. Better.
