Love is the word use to label the sexual excitement of the young, the habituation of the middle-aged, and the mutual dependence of the old.

It's says it right there in the bible. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. – 1 John 4:9-11

There are three types of love:

Eros love - known as "erotic love". It is based on strong feelings toward another. It usually occurs in the first stages of a man-woman "romantic" relationship. The weakness with this type of love is obvious. It is based more on "self-benefit", of what can benefit you rather than the other person. This is "I love you because it feels good, and makes ME happy loving you."

Philos love - a love based on friendship between two people.
It is true that two lovers that start out by being friends first before becoming partners usually are the relationships that last more, long-term. Friendship is the foundation of a successful relationship. This is true whether it is marriage, or boyfriend-girlfriend, relationship betweeen family members, relationship with co-workers, employer, etc

    Agape - unconditional love
The third and highest type of love is "agape", or unconditional love.
Agape love is above philos love and eros love. It is a love that is totally selfless, where a person gives out love to another person even if this act does not benefit her/him in any way. Whether the love given is returned or not, the person continues to love (even without any self-benefit).

In essence, eros love is "physical", philos love is "mental", and agape love is "spiritual". Thus, it is made up of the three fundamental elements of man: physical, mental and spiritual.

A mutual feeling of acceptance between two people, romanticly or not. In which they are attracted to one anothers personality, way of thinking, etc. Physical attraction, in my opinion is not love, its just a door to it.

    Fulfilling God's Laws....

For whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

In the bible, God says man shall not be alone. So He created woman from the flesh of man. Also about loving your neighbors Jesus said this.

John 15:9-17 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.

    About Marriage, Solomon says this.

Song of Solomon 8:6-7 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the LORD. Many waters cannot quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man offered for love all the wealth of his house, he would be utterly despised.

So Love, every one needs it. Man is not to be alone in the world, that is not why God created us. We were created in His own image, and to be loved

Love takes many forms and is indeed complex because of it. You love your parents and they love you. You love your children and they love you. This type of love is a special feeling you have for someone you are related to and know well. Then there is romantic love which is what we most often relate to when thinking of love. This is all about an attraction we have to someone that has certain qualities even when we may not even know them well. Often this type of love is so intense we are consumed by it and before we are truly ready often marry because of it. This relationship could change and develop into real love or it may fade and before long we realize that person is not at all what we thought.

Regardless of the type of love we are talking about it is not easy to define what love is as there are so many variations of it. In it's simplest form however it is a very special attraction to a person that makes us very happy they are in our life.

No not in the sense that it is discribed for man and woman. Sex on the other hand has a physical reaction and chemical change in the body that can be measured. Love is based on fantasy and expectations that are usually shattered by reality.
