I've lived forty years, and I can tell you one thing. There's nothing more terrible than to have spiritual (soul) pain. If the spiritual isn't okay, nothing is okay. Everything after that falls apart. There's a deep sadness that I have seen under the sun. It pierces to the very core of the self. It tears deeply into the very heart of a man. It sucks the life out of a person with no hope in sight. Pain in your soul (spiritual turmoil) is the worst thing anyone can go through. I know from experience. It took me a long time to recover and get through it. I hope none of you have to go through it.

Depression hurts. The mind controls the body and can block, amplify, or invent physical pain.

When the inner soul is hurt it's too hard to get back to the place you were at from the beginning. I think the only way to heal it is to go to the head Doctor; Jesus Christ and allow him to fix-it.. Amen!!

It depends upon the individual. Based on how the rates of anxiety and depression in the U. S., I'd say that "soul pain" is prevalent, especially given its affluence. An argument could be made that its "mind pain", but discovering spirituality is the most enduring solution for that. “There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Albert Einstein

I would have to say mind and soul pain. I think you can't have one without the other. They are like a shadow that follows you where ever you go. You can't run and you can't hide. You can't bury it in your mind because it will come back at you another day and in another way. No drugs can take away the pain. They just keep you in a fog but the shadow is still always there when the fog wears off. The only way the pain will let go is when you let go and realize you will never be perfect and your imperfections are what makes you...YOU

I can deal with body pain easily enough without feeling the need to take any painkillers, but when my soul is in pain, nothing feels worse.

I guess it is a individual opinion and what we each have been through. I have had some real body type pains so can only relate to those. I control soul and mind pain but physical pain not so much or at least have not been able to without meds. The worst was a heart attack many years ago, like a sledge hammer hitting you in the chest.

I think some things people call body pains are actually good and comforting pains, like soreness after a workout.

My father broke his femur recently, and I happened to be there. I can say that it really hit home to me what a friend physical pain can be. I was able to talk to him about his body and comfort him until the paramedics arrived because he could tell me where the pain was. I couldn't see the leg through his pants, so that helped me to know how to ease his mind.

Now that I think about this question, though. I am wondering. Is there a level of physical pain that is so bad that it becomes pain of the soul? I think so. Perhaps for injuries so bad there just isn't a good explanation for the injury. Another would be a physical injury which results from a real betrayal scenario...

The ultimate soul pain to me...betrayal...

They say all pains are growing pains, but I understand POWERSHAKER"S angle on it too. Thanks for that post. It hit home with me...

I don't know if I would call it a "soul" but there is something within me, some kind of life force, that knows right from wrong and hurts terribly when something horrible happens. It's a much deeper, more painful hurt than anything physical.
