What does Psalm 23 mean to you? By Hunter.

Brian 2012/01/25 22:26:39
Psalm 23 (KJV)

1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

God is everything I need. He gives me rest. He gives peace to my soul and shows me the way I should walk.
When I am afraid, I shouldn't be. He is with me even unto death and beyond.
When my enemies look like they are winning, they are not.
His mercy never fails and He will never leave me nor forsake me.

I think perhaps that we are currently in the valley of the shadow of death, and that Psalm 23 is all to often recited at funerals concerning the deceased when it was and is to be more so preached to and for the living.

1 The Lord will keep me and tend to me as a loving shepherd and a Father; He will not let me go hungry or thirsty spiritually and physically if I stay close to Him.

2 Even if I don't want to, God sometimes reminds me to cool down and take a break from stress of reality and life as I know it. He calms me, as He is our Comforter

3 He brings to life old fires for Him that died. His words are my guide that I must follow to bring glory to my King

4 Even at my lowest points, God is still good. Nothing can put to shame God's power or glory. His inerrant Word and His loving commands with promises are my foundation and what I cling to

5 While those who seek to destroy me are empty and tossed by the hardships of life, I can rest assured in the Lord as they watch from the outside. His love and mercies never cease.

6 God will always be at my side, no matter where the road turns. God is preparing a place for me in His future Kingdom. that's where I'll go after I leave this earth.

The 23rd Psalm is something I recite when I'm worried. The visual imagery is comforting.

To me, the Valley of the Shadow of Death is this mortal world, where we can die at any time. No one knows (even if a doctor tells them) how long they have to live. My first wife died unexpectedly in bed (and not sick). before she was 21. My third wife was not supposed to live through her teens (the doctors said so) and died at the age of 42.

If you believe in God and ask him to be a part of your life and carry strong faith in him, he will cradle you in his arms for all time wherein your mind will be at peace, your soul shall have no yearning, and your body no hunger.

OK that sounds nice, but it also sounds like I am dead. I think the reason I have pain is to remind me I am not dead. Dead in a casket photo he will cradle you in his arms for all time wherein your mind will be at peace, your soul shall have no yearning, and your body no hunger.

It's a psalm about trust in God no matter how perilous life becomes, even to the point of facing death. I see this psalm as a comfort to me when I'm faced with a situation far too big for me to handle. When I can't handle it, I know God will, and he always has for me. Praise him for helping me through some seriously crappy things in my life. Without him I wouldn't be the person I am today. That psalm reminds me of that.

It means those who believe, and follow the Lord God shall not want for anything, and they shall not fear anything.

But then we know that's not true now, don't we.
Look around, what do you see?????
Those who believe and follow the Lord God, and they are starving and in need, and fear their governments.

Looks more like the Lord God is an absentee landlord !

we are sheep waiting to be slaughtered into a meal.

Our master shows us the paths, valley's, protects us from wolves and foxes and leads us for about a year and then he throws us into a mill where we get grinded and cut open.
