What does a red moon symbolize?

Death Faerie 2010/05/28 03:05:53
I know Christians have their answers, but I'm looking for superstitions of all belief systems. I'm sure there are scientific reasons, but I want to know what a red moon symbolizes. A coworker and I saw a red moon tonight. It also had a black line across it. The red didn't last long, by the time I got my boss to look, it was a normal full moon. I had a weird feeling when I saw it.

Its when the SUN strikes the moon from behind it and the moon shines to the earth witch makes it a RED MOON.

Your answer: A red moon is not a good omen, it is a sign that evil has touched the land.

The Red Moon is a symbol sometimes associated with the Summer Solstice.

Did you notice that the moon had a yellowish tint tonight? The Summer Solstice is next month. I would love to go to a gathering that celebrates it. Sadly, I'm out of touch with many Pagans. Those I grew close to were scattered by Katrina or I fell out of touch because I happen to agree with much of what Anton LeVay says, not all, mind you, but he has good points.

Jeesh, I'm rambling. I'm sorry. I'm just exhausted. I just got home from work not too long ago.

I think it symbolizes a blood drop. For me that means I will get to see real blood spill in the week the red moon shows...I like blood. It also means I will be inspired for my poems...

It was a lunar eclipse. It was a lovely red moon, I just needed to know what it meant...it could mean a lot of things. I've actually received a few interesting answers.

For me, a red moon - if it isn't just low in the sky (because the atmosphere changes the color of the moon when it's that low)... well, here:

Pale Moon doth rain, Red Moon doth blow; White Moon doth neither, Rain nor snow.

It wasn't that low in the sky, I had to look up. "red moon doth blow"...hmm I wonder if it portends a hurricane this year.

I wonder if I should stock up on hurricane supplies. I know I can't evacuate (even if its Katrina sized) because of my pets. Most hurricane shelters don't allow pets. My pets may be annoying brats, but I'm not about to abandon them.

    Its a good thing I have a Sam's card.

They're predicting a very active hurricane season, but usually it's more imminent than that. It tends to predict the next day or two, not week or month.

AKA the blood red moon, it's just as Jester said .Seeing a bood red moon is a rarer phenomenon than seeing a blue moon.. Moon appears redder when the amount of dust in the atmosphere increases. so the possibility of seeing a red moon increases as u go near the cities. The most significant red moon ever recorded in the history ever was caused from the explosion of 'krakatoa', a volcano in the Indonesian archipelago. the moon appeared red for over a month

Yes it does, besides, you never know what scientists will discover in the future, if they aren't stagnant. Of course science is already beginning to stagnate because today's scientists seem to have very closed minds, its like a religion to them.

Everything is just in a giant melting pot. Sex, love, religion, science, belief's, politics, everybody is just caught inside the heat trying to explain there reason with more reason and they are just slow dancing in a burning room trying to convert or trying to preach their "truth."

Atmospheric conditions tint the moon a 'blood-red' color sometimes. It is not abnormal. In physics, we are taught that the colors we perceive are an assimilation of light refraction.

This also accounts for a "hazy" look to the sky at times.
