Truckers are the single most vital part of America's Economy for the simple fact nothing and I mean nothing can be bought sold or traded without truckers. It takes a truck to deliver everything in a grocery store, retail store, manufacturing plants need raw material delivered by trucks, etc. Gas stations depend on trucks to deliver fuel to their gas station so they can sell it to the consumers, nothing moves without truckers period. These facts are often taken for granted by our society and often overlooked by our society.

It would be a massive construction project to install all of those rails. I saw a special on Discovery channel where they showed the old railroad tracks that used to run above ground in LA. A real traffic nightmare! It took years to build the tracks that now run below the ground level until you hit the surface. It would be a great boom for the economy of a place like Bakersfield though.

Yes, very expensive! But last I heard every gallon of gas sold has a Tax for just such things? Another concern is the lost revenue buy others who lose time being hung up in the traffic mess!

I have no problem with a Truck with a Container on it for local delivery. But using Tractors as a main means of getting them out of state is a silly snarling waste of resources that severly inpedes other commerce.

And the Fools are selling us on a commuter train from LAX to SF via Fresno? Who is 100 miles East and saying "GTFouttahere!"!

Oh and a Highspeed Train to Las Veagas makes much more sense and the route would be over a lot of virtually unused fereral land!

Trust me your tax dollars are NOT being put to best use by "Rocket Scientists" in these cases!

.... those Fuel Taxes are much like the Fed Tire Tax and the Cal Tire Tax ... you know, $ 1.75 per tire last I knew to fund disposal ... a duplicate of the fed tax for the same thing.

..... if the Fuel Taxes, Tolls and Highway Use Taxes that we pay were actually apllied as advertised at implementation, Infrastructure would be well maintained and updated on a regular basis .... the Funds are routinely stolen for ' Pet Projects ', such as Harry Reid's rail project..

I know a few truckers, long and short haul, and have great respect for their job, both economy wise and difficulty wise. I've watched one in an extra long rig make a tight turn off of an uphill off ramp in a snowstorm in a residential area... amazing.

Much like in my country...Australia, truckers are a vital part of life itself and I hope in future days to come that it never changes. In all my dealings with these guys I've never met one with any of the perversions that you speak of and although they are known to like the ladys...... a lot.!! there's nothing about these people that is out of the ordinary. They are just ordinary working men doing there best to do there job.

MyCountry, I'll say it like this. I saw a sign posted in N.M. years ago that said it like it really is. "If you bought it a trucker brought it!" In answer to your question, yes, trucking is very much vital to our countries economy here. Also I see you're pretty much new here so if no one has done it then let me be the first to say to you welcome to SH. I hope you have yourself a great time here and meet/befriend many nice friends. Good post, from 1 trucker to another.

Feel any safer now that you take your shoes off at an airport ... funny, how the bs programs target the innocent, isn't it.

actually, if the federal goverment, would leave the hours of service alone, the 14hr, 11 hr, and 10 hr rules. we would not have problems. statisticly the trucking industry has had fewer accidents since these rule were made. if we leave it up to the obama administration they would have us only driving 8 hours a day. which to me would hurt the economy and make truckers do drastic things to make up for the money they would loose, especially for owner operators. they just keep changing the rules every year.

I don't know what's been going on that you would even ask the question. I grew up understanding that truckers were the knights of the road. There was a time when truckers could be depended on to help when help was needed, and stand up when it counted. Maybe I'm just old school.

I do not stereotype people based on their occupation. I have met truck drivers that are decent people and I have come across a couple of perverts too so it really depends on the person.
I guess it really is a vital part of america's economy so I suppose I could have chose that one.

I did it for three years and it is a honest hard job. Delivering all the goods in the United States is the backbone of this nation. I have met and known a lot of good men and women that drive for a living I was lucky I did local driving, not long haul which is tough.

i don't know if i should vote on my own poll, but thank you for opinions. i do wished that all truck drivers could be courtious out there on the road. it seem there is a lot more traffic on the road these days, i am to a long haul driver, and spend alot of hours from my wife. i try my best to practice safe and courtious driving, i feel that we can all play a part in this. so i will keep doing my part to keep the economy going and the roads safe, thank you once again for your thoughts and opinions.

Both of the above? Not perverts...and I know trucks keep America moving and working. Most drivers are courteous, but I used to spend a LOT of time on the road and I have been deliberately run off the road many times, for no reason. I'm not a rude driver either.

i hope it wasn't intentional, see trucks are big and we have a certian blind spot that no matter how much we check those mirrors. the blind spot will hid a car, so i hope it was that and not the driver being rude. if it was i appologize for that persons rude behavior. be safe.

Thanks for the kind response. Where is that spot so I can stay out of it? I just want everyone on the road to be aware, travel safely and be kind to other drivers. I know there are some very rude 4 wheelers too.

Miss Peewee I think I can answer your question here about the blind spots. I've been driving off and on since 94 so I've got a few miles under my hide. Basically if you can see the driver thru his mirrors then he can see you. If you can't see the driver then you are in a blind spot. Hope this helps sweet lady

I think you're a vital part of America's economy. I have always found truckers to be polite and gentlemanly when I've encountered them at rest stops and I would prefer to travel on the roads with them rather than some drivers of other vehicles.
