What do you think of arranged marriages?

Arranged marriages are commonplace in middle eastern and Chinese cultures. Kids are told from an early age, that their spouse will be chosen for them and to deny their pick shows disrespect towards the family. While the marriages aren't originally based on love, divorce rates much lower than love based marriages in the United States. What's your opinion on arranged marriages?

Arranged marriages have been around since the beginning of marriages, I'm thankful that I have the freedom to decide who I choose to marry. Just a thought mind you, at the rate of divorce in our country, I have to wonder if maybe some marriages should be arranged. :)

I honestly think marriage should be made for love. Any other motive for marriage cheapens the institution and turns it into a barter system where human souls are given over into bondage "until death do you part". After all, the soul, in my opinion, is the part of our psyche that feels love for another in the first place.

they are no good cause you don't love them, but sometimes when your marriage is arrange the couple stay more years together than the other. but thats just my opinion. my friend told me that in her country girls marry at 15, i was really shock at firt then my mom told me that she run-away from home with my dad at 16

are the stupidest things ever... you might as well be telling someone exactly how to live their life cause by arranging a marriage your hurting that persons life drastically!

Its horrible marriage should be shared between two people that love each other and are ready to start a life together and nothing else. Not for money or anything!

Is a great thing based on where you come from... He in America. I don't think it would work really well. But if you're from India then obviously it's a normal thing. Once again it's all about culture.

Arranged marriages are creepy and stupid! Marriage is based on love and wanting to spend your life with a certain person. If you don't love that person, you won't ever be happy with them. It causes problems.

i it wrong, marriages are for people who love each other unconditionally and want to spend the rest of their lifes together. not for parents to sell their kids for extra money!thats just wrong!

what they gotta do is what they gotta do . i just pray that it aint me goin up the aisle with someone i dont love . im sad for them . but then i respect them . they are willing to do that for something like to rule or something . i think that its bads and they dont deserve no true love . but i cant stop it .

I am appalled that this is still going on in the world today. Isn't this like slavery only worse as you are selling your own children......and to people that are old enough to be their grandparents..........and lets not even speak of the sexual inundo's..........horrific in my world!

I think arranged marriages are NOT practical.

It's a rare thing for someone to actually be compatible with someone that they're thrown into a relationship with. So, in my opinion, arranged marriages are completely impractical and unfair to the people involved. If that's all I had to live for in a relationship, I'd become a nun. (No offense to those who choose a life as a nun; I just couldn't do it myself.)

are just...like i think that once u get married it will because ur in love with the person not beacuse someone decides that it would be a good idea to make thier kids marry someone they don't even like or don't even treat them the way they desrve to be treated.
