In the American Revolution, the Patriots were battling what they felt was an occupying force, the British. All or most of the Patriots considered themselves "Americans" not British. They were born here, their children were born here so they were actually fighting to achieve power over their own homeland and the British were an invading force.

The French Revolution was a revolution against the excesses of the ruling class and the monarchy. It really started out as a kind of a mob mentality and grew into a true revolution. It was extremely violent with some aristocrats actually being torn apart by the mobs and of course, we're all familiar with the guillotine. It was extremely savage in the treatment of the royal family. Even the royal children were victims of extreme abuse and finally death in some cases. And this revolution lasted for many years in terms of the final structure of the government.

I'm an American and I love this country but sometimes the foolishness we allow ourselves to be dragged into is unbearable. We run around and work like dogs just to keep our heads above water and if you take a two week vacation you're considered a slacker because no one should want to be away from the office for that long. Where in France, people are more concerned with quality of life, family, entertainment, the joys of life, not just the jobs, salary, who's getting ahead etc. I think the French enjoy life much more than today's Americans. We ought to take a lesson from them.

Um...they would have both sucked! MAYBE America out of the two though in France if you disagreed or even looked at them funny during the revolution you'd be sent to the guillotine.. lol

But these days I would live in France if given the choice in a heartbeat.

I'm pretty sure that the big difference between the two revolutions was liberty vs equality and I think that I'd be happy living in either.

    I definitely prefer America.

The French Revolution was a bloodbath in which they devoured their own. Neither was it that successful - there's a reason the current government is called "The Fifth Republic".

A man who is good enough to shed his blood for the country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards. More than that no man is entitled to, and less than that no man shall have.[ speech at the Lincoln Monument, Springfield, Illinois, 4June 1903, in Addresses and Presidential Messages 1902-4(1904); Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of The US]
    In French Revolution
De l'audace, et encore de l'audace, et toujours de l'audace!
i.e. Boldness, and again boldness, and always boldness![ speech to the Legislative Committee of General Defence, 2 September 1792, in Le Moniteur 4 September 1792; cf. Bacon 42:12; Georges Jacques Danton French revolutionary]

I don't know enough of the history of either country to coment on the differences, as to which country i'd rather live in, as I've not visited either I don't know, I'd guess America as english is the main language, in France I'd probably ask directions and get a bag of chips lol.

The American Revolution was Revolution of the Middle Class. The Fremch is the dirt poor eolution. A few Leaders and a ton of followers who were starving. In the French even the worker poor of the Royalty got their heads handed to them. In America the people fought the Brits one and all.

Well ,this is my country I stood for in the service, and worked in my civilian life to make our American made products the best in the world. We may be a wacky bunch ,but that's us,and we have to relearn how to live with each other.

It has it's problems but I still think it's the best. It could be better...I hope it will get better.
I like Switzerland's thing were their young men and women spend a year or two in the army and are in reserve till they are 30. That way everyone would have a min of training.
