I was abused as a child and on my own at 13 and it was mixed.
At a young age I overcame it all to move on...I never turned to sex/booze/drugs to cope like so many...or despair. Not a clue why other then God had other plans for my journey. With each passing year my life has gotten better and better I am a happily married stay at home mama for my kids(two healthy kids and 3 angel babies) and we are foster parents waiting to adopt. We do what we can to help mamas and kids. ....because if someone had been there for my mom or at the very leastfor me it would have shown me some light at the end of the tunnel...
Moving forward is all you can do.

I was very fortunate as a child to have loving parents and grandparents that did their level best to raise me to be the kind of person I am today. In spite of all that love and support I found that for most of my life I have been troubled with shyness and have never really appreciated the person I have become until the last few years.

So sorry to hear your story and all you had to endure. The best part of that is now you have people in your life that clearly support you and are encouraging you to do this. They clearly love you and have your best interest at heart. Having to live through what you did has to be traumatic and will take time to change but it can be done and with the help of your friends I know it will. My best to you and may the Lord be with you. :-)

I was abused sexually while a baby and toddler in foster homes then mentally, physically, and sexually by my adoptive father. I was also sexually abused by some other men and a woman. I worked through it and came out fine but with strong opinion about what is abuse and what is not.

Not as a child. My parents were and still are very supportive of me. I think that is why I got through my marriage and divorce and still have a positive opinion about people and life.

If we go by today standards, some might say yes to both, It was 40 years ago after all... Some punishments (physical) were deserved IMO (I was not an easy child, lol), others not (wasn't me THAT time!!) ;o)

My mother raised me on her own (my father passed away when I was 2) and had to be both an authorative and comforting figure... Not easy at all when I look back...

Turned out well enough though, and I hold nothing against her, she did the best she could under the circumstances, which is about all a single parent can do... ;o)

I personally was very lucky to have loving parents, but I have been witness to the abuse that some children suffer. I volunteer for (CASA) or as it is known here, Child Advocates. So, I deal with these children on a daily basis. I cannot understand what drives anyone to hurt a child emotionally or physically. My heart goes out to all of you that have had to suffer this throughout your lives and I hope and pray you all are getting help and moving on!! Turn that negative around and make it a positive by becoming a stronger person and not letting the abuser still control your life. You are most definitely worthwhile!!

Alyssa, why are you forced to live with it? There are places you can turn to for help. If you need it, feel free to send me a message and I will do what I can to help you.

I don't want to be taken away because I know I could be put in places far worse than this.
At least here I can sleep eat and shower, If I leave it I might have to live in a box somewhere. I only have 4 more years of this. I think with the love and support I have I can make it through it

That depends on what type of abuse you are having to suffer through. I agree that some foster homes can be bad but those are truly the exception to the rule. I have dealt with several here and they have all be great homes. I'm assuming that you do have family members that are loving and supportive?

Abused? Probably not. Treated poorly? Yes. When my parents died (I was 16), I was sent to live with my sister and b-i-l. They put me in the basement with two concrete walls and two blankets for the other two walls. Now, other than being wet and cold, I really didn't care - I didn't like being around them anyway. But, at night, they would put the closet door over the "hatch" from the basement to the living area so that I couldn't get up there to use the bathroom. So, I pee'd all over the sump pump cover or in the back yard. Once I got the Hell out of there (H. S. graduation), I never went back. That was 50 years ago. And, even though I do speak to them a couple of times a year, every time that I drive to Disney (once a year), I pass within three miles of their home and I NEVER stop.

I was sexually molested by my older brother (14 years older), physically abused by different people in the family and emotionally traumatized by several family members. I was the youngest of four children, my father was a week-end drunk, my mother was a bible thumping crazy lady, and my sister was alternating mean and good to me. Fortunately, I loved to read and learn ( a gift from my abuser) and escaped into that at an early age.

Being from Columbus Oh with the Reds on the Cincinnati station and the Yankees owned by CBS. My folks would never watch the Yankees at noon with Dizzy Dean and PeeWee Reese. At least until we both got in the series in 61 and we yankees beat the crap out of the Reds in 5.
