North Carolina resident Cindi Davis had a mortgage of $873 per month. She also has monthly medical bills of more than $1,000. She is in jeopardy of losing her home, because she cannot afford both. According to HuffingtonPost.com, "Despite requests for reprieve from her doctors, who have told Wells Fargo that losing her home would be detrimental to her health, the bank has been unmoved. In a letter to WCNC, Wells Fargo stated." What do you think? Should Wells Fargo ease off or are they in the right?

HUFFINGTONPOST.COM reports:

Surely they could allow the poor lady to live in peace for the little time she has left. It would hurt nobody for the bank to claim money owed from the sale of the property after she dies.

When my son was having medical problems just after loosing his job because he couldn't work and had not gotten SS Disability yet, Wells Fargo kept telling them they were going to work a deal to reduce theirs payments for awhile, The son kept calling hem to find out if the deal had gone through and kept getting excuses and different people handling it each time they called. One told them not to make their payments till it was settled. They were living off savings. I told them that something is wrong Keep making the payments and check with someone else, when he did he found out that Wells Fargo was in the process of filing foreclosure on them, while they were promising they were going to work with them! The other bank managed to get things straightened out and get them better rates with their bank, of course the son jerked all his funds out of Well Fargo! They are like Obama, talk through two sides of their mouth! When they took over our bank in Utah, there was a lot of stuff going on that I didn't like, I went to Credit Unions!

She should be worried about getting healthy. And really, think about giving deed in lieu of foreclosure and just walk away from her home. Her health is more important that making that payment and she doesn't need the added worry. Plus, my understanding is that it takes upwards to 2 years to get you out if you request mediation.

Wells Fargo is about itself, not helping others; they are a business and look out for #1. The leaders are about making a profit. Years ago Wells Fargo purchased some banks in Arizona (e.g., Southern Arizona, etc.) and began it's quest to be a large corporation. It succeed.

Big is not necessarily better although no matter what the grouping (e.g., large school district, department chains, etc.) they will tell you it is about efficiency. In the end it is about waste and not about the individual.

In terms of governments....big buracracies (sp.) goggle in the $ and waste it. It is the smaller companies/small businesses, etc. (like community banks, chain stores, or charter schools) that are about profit and the betterment of families and people in the community.

Mrs. Davis would have done better to get a loan from a community bank, not Wells Fargo.

Besides banks getting exuberant bailouts through taxpayers whom she is apart of, besides spouses not being responsible for property that they didn't sign a contract for, besides human morality/ethics, and how dare I talk about humanity in such a inhumane world, besides all of this: The bank is going to loose far more money through bad PR than it ever would through her not being able to pay mortgage payments until she recuperates.

Are banks responsible? Technically, they were bailout by taxpayers which should make them somewhat responsible as help is reciprocal. Are banks responsible for their income? If we look beyond the bailout which saved them, it's even more irresponsible to alienate your customers which furnishes your financial livelihood. Therefore, yes, they are responsible for their actions and the consequences that come from it. And they probably lack this responsibility by not accepting the consequences of last time through having a bailout.

    Take care,

What's the hurry? They can't sell her house in this market anyway. It will sit empty and falling down for at least a year. I've done business with them, and they are jackasses. They specialize in targeting people who have credit problems with the problem that paying off a high-interest loan with them will help build credit. They shut off my autopay while I was in the hospital. Who the hell does that? I didn't catch it right away. Now, that my car is paid off, they have assured that my credit rating is lower. They were so nice when I paid it off and thanked me for my business. They noticed that my car is 6 years old and told me not to hesitate to come to them when I need another car loan. I will ride a push scooter to work first.

This whole country is backwards... For example...they reward the rich with lower rates...and lower payments....while people who are not as wealthy get higher rates and higher payments...isnt that a bit backwards? I believe the bank should work with her. I dislike Wells Fargo anyways.

That's no surprise to me. Bank of America did it to me. My husband was in the hospital with pancreatic cancer and on one income we couldn't make all our bills with him out of work due to illness. I asked the bank to restructure my loan because things were really difficult. They told me they would but the procedure was to stop paying for 3 months and then I would qualify, and THEN they could restructure the loan to payments that would be easier while my husband was so ill. So I did what they told me to do. Then they foreclosed on me and said I couldn't restructure the loan.. I got an attorney and had to sell my home as a shortsale and still owed the bank money. In the mean time, my poor husband passed away, I paid the bank the difference because the bank tacked on all kinds of extra fees and I wound up owing more than it was worth and I had to sell my family home when all I wanted to do was restructure the loan. Banks are heartless. My husband and I taught school. He for 28 years and I for 30 and the bank really didn't care that we had made every payment on time..... So this is not anything new to me. I now have a little condo and would never do business with Bank of America again. I hate the banking system.

Thank you. What was so difficult ( and something the banks don't understand) was that when you are watching a loved one who is dying from cancer, the entire family is under incredible stress and that on top of having the bank hassle you is the worst. The crazy thing was that I would have gotten through it anyway and figured out a way to save my home if they told me I didn't qualify for restructuring. BUT they said I was a perfect candidate and so I followed all their rules and then they slapped a foreclosure on me. But at least by scrambling and get legal council I was able to save my credit by doing the shortsale. However, with all the hospital bills, the funeral costs, and my youngest in college at the time, it was more stress than anyone needs. But, life has a way of working out. My son graduated Cum laude, I paid back the bank, and I even bought a tiny condo and started over. What I can't get back is the hurt it caused my husband. I often wonder if his mental attitude would have been better if he didn't have to worry about the house and his family. I think that maybe a positive attitude would have saved him. But, you can't look back....that only hurts too much. I have come to the conclusion that life is what it is meant to be, and we must make the most of it. My husband got to see his first grandson and that was a gift for sure. Sadly he was only 55 when he died. His name was the same as yours. ( John.)

Wells Fargo (besides not wanting a bail out and being forced to take one) paid back every damned dime with interest in 2009. We expected them to do so and they did - we expect people who borrow money to pay it back - this lady is not different.

The point being, they accepted help that was offered: this women deserves no less. I'm sure she isn't asking for a hand-out, just until she is able to start payments again. As a loaning business, they are quite aware of the problems people face, and they take on this responsibility when they offer loans, in my opinion. Apart of taking that responsibility is being aware there are rough times when people are unable to pay on the contract for legitimate reasons: Cancer, terminally-ill patients, etc.... In any event, If they aren't going to help her, by doing so helping themselves, they are just going to lose even more business and money: deserves them right.

No, they were forced to accept money they did not need and did not want and paid it back with interest as soon as they were allowed to. They did not need help.

They have tried to help this woman for some time - the time is up apparently. Have no clue why this is so difficult for you to accept, makes no sense to me. Perhaps you can pay her payments, or send her money, or take her in - what ever spins your prop. Cancer kills nearly 547,500 Americans in a single year, every year - should every bank or mortgage company pay for those people or are you going to pay for all their houses??? Should all of the country pay for their houses, cars, TVs - what ever other things you desire?

Reason and logic must enter thought processes at some point. Later
