But...my mom was Dutch and Dutch cooking is all about baking, boiling or roasting. And, if you want seasonings, "the salt and pepper are on the table". All of my Dutch relatives cooked like that.
So, subjectively, no one cooked as well as my mom and I still don't like highly seasoned food. Objectively, I've had food that could be called "cuisine" in lots of other places.
Now I feel guilty...
We didn't have enough family for reunions (we weren't big breeders) but I've gone to office parties and potlucks. They used to be marvelous for trying new things and I would knock myself out to make something "special". I first tasted caviar and rattlesnake at office parties. And, a creamy, cheesy, Vietnamese spinach dip served in a huge "bowl" of baked bread that I would kill to know how to make.
Now...it's all take out.
