You!

I'm trying and its one of the hardest things I've ever tried to do. If only I listened 20 years ago when my family warned me not to start smoking.

I quit after the very first inhale. A grade school acquaintance tried to get me hooked and I was a one hit wonder. My lungs told me immediately that smoking was for idiots and never tried it again and have always thought those who smoke were born without brains.

I didn't quit, I just took a little break. I'll smoke for a few months and then stop for about 6 months to a year, but I notice that the first two weeks of stopping are the hardest...well for me anyway. The first week is edginess, anxiety, anger, depression, etc. and the second week is physical withdraw, nausea, congestion, fatigue, etc. The second week isn't as bad as the first.

I used no props, drugs, patches or anything but good old fear & determination! When I woke up in the middle of the night coughing & & gurgling & saw blood all over the front of me & the sheets, (over a cup of it before the night was done) I went immediately to emergency & spent the night there! As it turned out it wasn't cancer or anything smoke related but from a puffer I was using for pneumonia. It ruptured blood vessels in the bottom of one lung.
I figured I got off darn lucky, a warning of worse things to come & never picked up another cigarette. Whenever I felt the urge to have one I just stuck a pen or something in my mouth because my 'addiction' was more an oral fixation than anything else.
I still say cold turkey's the best route tho'...

HOWEVER, my friend was a 35 year two pack a day smoker.. Menthol's and roll your own with PIPE TOBACCO so it would be stronger.
He quit smoking with CHANTIX on the 12th day... NO kidding!!! IT worked that quick and that well. OF course he stayed on the Chantix for the entire three months as his doctor required and has never picked up another cig....Everyone that knows him was very proud as they absolutely did NOT believe he could ever do it. It has saved quite a bit of money .......

I quit so gradually that I didn't even realize I was doing it. I smoked about a pack a day for 4.5 years (in college), but I moved home with my parents (who didn't know I smoked and didn't approve of that habit) after graduating, and I started dating a guy who wasn't crazy about my smoking. I snuck around and hid it for awhile, but it got to be more trouble than it was worth. So eventually I quit, but I honestly couldn't tell you when. I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

I quit 26 years ago and it was hard to do, but I had a lot of support. If it's something you really want to do, you can do it. When you feel like having a smoke, get up and do something to take your mind off it.

Not too hard. I figured out to just give away my whole pack every time somebody tried to bum one. That got expensive & old real quick. & then to get people not to smoke cigaretts around me, I would bust out a joint & be like I'll smoke this with you if you'll put that out until I'm gone. 10 out of 10 times it worked. about a month later I was good to go. No more cravings.
