There was no drama or intrigue around its founding; it is one-sixth the size of Facebook and grew far slower, and it is run by a CEO in his 40s, not his 20s. But the post-IPO performance of LinkedIn’s stock highlights why it is so valuable as a company despite its bland reputation.

Facebook is everyday socializing, LinkedIn is professional networking.
The two are very different, focusing on different purposes and for a different crowd.
Linkedin is great for professional purposes; networking, collaborative working and the sharing of pertinent information.

I am opposed to giving Planet Earth every detail of my life.
I am not a celebrity, and won't benefit from having the world know my pet's name.
But government won't have to do ANYTHING to know every detail about me.
It's 4th Amendment invasive.
If you want future employers or business partners to find you. Linkedin is not a bad idea. I can't remember but I'll try to remember.
Linkedin is like a Pokedex for business(?).- (an online acquaintance of mine that used to be editor for a videogame, community, review and news company. Now works for Nintendo)
