Unemployment surges. Is the U.S. economy going from bad to worse?

its hard to say because things have been steady but not improving a whole lot

Just going about living in America, you can see things are getting worse.

The prez currently and all the one world order banking elitists love every minute of it.
They want everyone crawling to the government for a hand out, and soros the leader of

Its worse! started in 2009. I wonder who will be blamed for this since this piece of white trash became president.

Afraid things will continue down this road for a while. I hope I am wrong.

Politicians can't fix this, only the consumer can. Consumer demand creates jobs, not governments.

For the foreseeable future the consumer wants to create jobs elsewhere... We have rode this train to far.

The graph does a nice job of describing the last 3 years of the Bush administration. Why didn't the graph include 2009, 2010, and 2011, the Obama years? Those statistics are available....and indeed the graph did continue to get worse through 2009....but since then the direction has reversed.

Do you want to go back to the Bush chart shown? Vote for Bush's party. Or do you want unemployment to trend downward as it has since the end of 2009? The vote for the current president.

I several emails a week and a phone call or two a month asking me to consider taking a new job. This was not true during the Bush administration and so from my perspective, the job market has improved and is getting better. As for my investments....my real estate holdings and stock portfolios are worth 30 to 50% more than the were in 2008. So it is difficult for me to understand where all the doom and gloom is coming from. The economy was falling off a cliff in November, 2008. Now it is back on the road and climbing back up that hill....of course climbing the hill is harder and slower than free fall so it will take us some time to regain what we lost.

Does this really need to be asked right now? I think everyone knows we are just getting worse. Owing more and more, not only as individuals but as a country. It's really scary to think about.

The economy is flat at the moment but the GDP I believe has gone up slightly. I know one contradicts the other and this is my reasoning. The Job market has very little growth to measure, that reflects heavily on industries as a whole in general, whether it be factory or service, there has been very little growth. On the other hand to be sort of technical the household income and salaries have gone up a bit as did S/S for seniors as well, so this will reflect as growth in the overall U.S. GDP. Europe is in a deep recession and that will start really taking its toll on the world soon because it will be accompanied by inflation, so European companies will start charging more for goods. You may however see more Americans being able to afford Europe, because the Euro will start bottoming out and you will simply get more Euros for each dollar and Americans will capitalize and go to Europe.

at last report the euro is damn close to that now. The GDP is only one part of quation. Consumer confidence has been dropping steadly and that is the driving factor for the economy. At last report GDP was down by .5 %. The GDP for the rest of year is less 2.5 % that in my book is a disaster.

It sure is a disaster and the full impact of Europe's recession has not even taken full affect here. U.S. banks own the Euro I am sure and are well invested in their businesses. Bank of America holds a huge interest in Europe as well.

The GDP declined last Quarter Unemployment is on the Rise the Uncertainty and failed Policies of Barry and Company have Business in a holding Pattern and the out of control Debt, It is getting ready to get really Ugly and that is what Barry wants his goal is to Destroy this Country. There is really no other explanation for the coarse he has Plotted. I heard today that he wrote a College Thesis on how to Bankrupt America.

It's about to get even worse.....if they shut down all those (coal) plants...all the smokestack drama...

Yes. None of this surprises me. The "rebound" was short lived. The recovery is stagnant. People are giving up hope.

We aren't even in a Recession and actually new home sales and construction are picking up also.. Sounds like more fearmongering..

now-a-days they just wanna hire people who can hold down a job and work indecent hours even if you have a degree they wont hire you. you have to have a job to get a job.

It's in a limbo of uncertainty in the run up to the election.

What would give business pause before an election?

Businesses are uncertain of the incoming policy from Washington. Will there be tax cuts or tax hikes on small businesses on the table? What is the regulatory outlook from Washington? These kinds of questions don't have clear answers yet.

Unemployment, the debt bomb, threat of 'monetary easing' (aka printing money) and the fact that the government has employed every artificial spending program to prop-up a stalling economy are all coming together at a time when Asian markets are declining and we face a spike in energy costs due to the threat of war in Iran and Syria.

We are in tough times and it looks like it is getting worse.

Coupled with the marked increase in high paying government jobs to try and enforce his will.
