I think they should load some other holy books on there and maybe a few nonreligious ones as well. Yeah you know what I'm talking about. The day "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins is alongside the bible in a hotel will be the happiest of my life.

Well Party Boy you do have a choice you know. You can always just leave the Bible in the drawer and just shut the drawer so you don't have to look at it if it offends you soooo much. Just saying.

Or people could stop pushing their religion on others. Put a copy of EVERY religious text on the Kindle and be fair.

I'm fine with that. And in this particular case I don't see that any one is pushing any kind of religion on anybody else by just having a Bible in a drawer out of site. If you don't go thru the drawers then you wouldn't even know it is there.

Pushing may be a strong term. But it certainly appears to be promoting one religion over others. In my opinion the Gideons should not have been allowed to do that. People that want to read a bible will have no trouble finding one.

That exactly what I'd do, but now that every religios text can be loaded onto a single kindle for every room, to not do so would be extremely biased.

There you go. And it looks pretty compact so I don't see why they couldn't load up a bunch of religious stuff for all the faiths on it. Heck, works for me o.k.

Oh yeah. I think it's a good idea. You can load up volumes of info into a nice compact package. That's the really nice thing about computers.

It's nice and all, but it's likely related to an awesome bookstore/hangout closing! :(

They didn't sell Kindles, and oddly enough the only other bookstore in town hasn't closed down, and they sell Kindles. Coincidence? I think not!

I hear that. And the nice thing about it? You're going to get the folks out there that like the "for real" books over a "virtual" book so for right now I don't really see books going out of style. I figure that book store that "is" selling Kindles? They're up on things and events and they know that's most likely the future so they stock them. And it's a win win situation for them. If folks prefer the Kindles then they make a sale. If however folks prefer the real books then they make a sale anyway. It sounds like good marketing strategy there.

Yeah, but it's a strategy I wish the other place that closed down made! It had a café, and CDs, and all sorts of cool stuff that the surviving bookstore doesn't have. And to think, not selling Kindles and possibly Kindle related stuff could be what made the place fall behind in sales and close down...

I hear what you're saying there. Yeah, we had a nice book store close by that closed their doors last year. And they were the same way.

Am I the only one who kind of resents the Kindle because of the store closing?
  • bman~AVA Party B... 2012/07/08 20:28:34

Well, if it was strictly because of the Kindle then I'd for sure agree with you. If however there are other extenuating circumstances then maybe not so much.

I know that, which is why I can't REALLY resent the Kindle. I know it was part of it, but I also know it wasn't the only factor that closed down that bookstore.

I hear that. Yeah, out here I think the book store just went out of business is all. We had warning it was closing down and all so it wasn't a big shock per say but it was a great book store to go to. On top of the books they also had magazines, CD's, DVD's, and even video games. Not to mention a little coffee cafe where you could just sit and relax, have a cup of coffee, and socialize with others.

Isn't that the pits? You figure if the store is far away then it's no big deal but if it's close by then it's convenient.

It sure is. But after I complain about stuff like this, I think, "First world problems." and then I buck up and stop complaining about the minor inconvenience and get over it.

I hear that. Yeah, it seems we can all find something to complain about. It's like an old saying that I remember, "I used to complain that I had no shoes till I found a man that had no feet." I think that analogy pretty much sums it up. Too many of us(me especially, LOL!) are complaining we have no shoes here. Until we see the people with no feet. And that's pretty much the way it is with life in this country these days. It's time to try fixing things.

On the flip side, complaining is inevitable. I guess it's just part of human nature. When you don't have to deal with having no feet, eventually you'll complain about having no shoes. It sucks, you know?

Oh yeah. I guess it's just a matter of perspective and attitude. Some folks will see a glass as half full. Others will see that very same glass as half empty. It's pretty much the same but the perception is different.

I don't have a religion, I don't need to run to some deity to justify my words and actions. Religion is frequently used to justify hate, and I don't like it. If religion was more caring and understanding like the holy texts say it should, I wouldn't have a problem with it. When it's used to justify hate and control millions into hating as well, then I have a problem with it.

So what you're saying is I don't have a religion here me explain why and that will count as my brilliant retort(also before you start patting yourself on the back for how smart you were you may want to think why the person hasn't responded, for instance they could have gone on vacation)

I put forth my opinion, and people can agree or disagree with it as they will. And that's not to say I believe there is no god, just that there is no god that mankind has created and worships.
