I think they should load some other holy books on there and maybe a few nonreligious ones as well. Yeah you know what I'm talking about. The day "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins is alongside the bible in a hotel will be the happiest of my life.

Instead of the Bible throw some interesting books on there that people might actually want to read.

News! -- - some (many millions), do want to read the Bible - have you never actually read it? - fascinating, multifaceted, many writers, includes mainly The Word of God, wars, treachery, goodness, love, romance, the beginning of nations, slavery and escape, means of being saved in heaven by following it's teachings, and of course, an outline of where we come from, how the plan for populating the earth was discussed, voted on, a war in heaven over the decision, the creation of the planet, and then prophecies from the beginning of the world until it's final wars, current issues, how to find your way successfully through them, the return of Jesus as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, the changing of the earth to a paradise, eventually it becoming a heavenly planet to those who are worthy of it. A planetary history if you look at it that way, or I suppose you could read some tale in an expensive and self-destructive paperback about a cheap and tawdry affair, and splitting up eventually, instead, or a sci-fi, or crime, war and murder perhaps? I know which I would like best

I have read most of it because when you're raised in a Christian household you have to. I'd rather read something non-fiction. I have trouble reading a book that is "the word of God" but was still built by a committee of men who chose what was going to be in it.

I prefer to hold a real book. When I read I enjoy the feel of a book in my hands.

I personally think you could make a Kindle/ipad whatever, to have the feel of a good leather-bound book, which I would be happy about. Especially if it was a real leather binding. With electronic paper, the transformation would be complete - it can be in full colour too, and only uses batteries to change the image. Once it's changed, it stays like that permanently until the next page or image is shown. You can switch off, and it still stays - no power needed. It's like buying one book, and the print or title changes - you could have a libraby of one, with 1500 volumes in that one book - that's for me - and cheaper too! can't wait until they hit the high street - still in development, I understand

Kindle allows you to read whatever you wish, the bible is still there if you want it. It's not like hotels are and kind of a place for reverence.

Of course I prefer the kindle. It actually gives me options on what I want to read. The bible is available for free from kindle as well as thousands of other books. If you want to read the bible, have at it, if you don't, now you have options. Kudo's to this hotel for respecting that people have other beliefs.

Could always bring your own reading material. I doubt people go to Motels and Hotels to pull the Gideon Bible out of the drawer to read it...it's there "just in case" you didn't bring your own along...

Kindles are fantastic if you're forced to go to church as a kid or teen, just read whatever book you want to until it's time to go home.

After all, you could walk out with a Gidion Bible, and no one would say a word...try to sneak a Kindle out in your luggage, and they probably have it tagged and alarmed...and will charge your credit card for it!

So you prefer Bibles because they're easier to steal?
  • BoomLover Kyle 2012/07/05 15:00:28
    BoomLover
Of course not, I own 9 Bibles that I have paid for, why steal one? The point, which you didn't get, was people would try to steal a Kindle, whereas a Bible, placed free by the Gideon Society, wouldn't cost the Hotel or Motel anything if it were stolen...I know your young, but don't be an idiot because of it.....

You paid for the same book nine times and I'm the idiot? Also if the Kindles really are tagged to your credit card then that would mean they're still not losing any money for it seeing as how they will just take the money for it straight from your credit card.

    1) Why would I want to open a Kindle/Bible to the passage someone else was reading?
    2) Bad enough the TV remote is the filthiest thing in a room without adding something else that can't be sanitized properly.

passage reading 2 tv remote filthiest room adding sanitized properly

Oh, nasty! obviously, this person is not washing his or her hands after using the toilet. We should use Sanitary tissues to clean our keyboards after use. I have a special spray. Amazing the caked on grease and filth on some commercial keyboards, usually in the video store. Really hideous in my local one - and the staff all ill with various complaints. I have taken to getting mine via post - I clean the DVD'S before playing to make sure. Expecting a funeral any week now

I think hotels block $X amount of credit on your CC to ensure they are paid for incidentals including room service, movies, etc. If your prepaid card didn't have the amount they need they'd ask you to produce another card. Kindles are not that expensive, probably around a hundred bucks. My guess is it would be cheaper to buy a new one on Amazon than take the used one from the hotel.

Even so, I would think it would be much cheaper to replace a $20 bible, than a $80 Kindle.

$20 Bible? We talked with the Man from Gideon, and each Bible cost less than $5, and they encourage you to use it, even take it, because that way they are fulfilling the prophesy of getting the Word out to the world...
