I think they should load some other holy books on there and maybe a few nonreligious ones as well. Yeah you know what I'm talking about. The day "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins is alongside the bible in a hotel will be the happiest of my life.

With this you can read something worth reading instead of just mythology.

What a great idea and I think putting all the different type of books that are out there for the different type of beliefs but also be a great idea.

Hey we live in a modern world; why should you be stuck with a paperback book when there are so many choices?

And you can add other books on it to, that way everyone can have their own.

I am accustomed to using my Bibles (we have 5), but the Kindle sounds like fun. I hope that they're not being stolen. It would be so odd to steal a Bible in any form, but some people are...

Considering that the Gideon Society puts Bibles in hotel rooms *so they can be taken* by weary travelers, I'd love to pick up a free Kindle that way! I'd even keep the e-bible. I'd just add a few more books as well. ^^

I like the Kindle as long as I have wi-fi. It gives me the ability to have different translations of the bible quickly at my finger tips.

They are both total crap, but if I cannot have a MAC tablet, a kindle is certainly better than a bible.

I'm going to say Kindle, simply because they don't have a "Choose Your Own Opinion" option. I don't care one way or the other what book they put in hotels. I think that putting Kindles in them is kind of strange because I think it's just asking to get stolen.

i'd have thought that theft of a kindle would've been something of a problem though... they usually cost a lot more to replace than a bible.

If i owned a hotel there'd be NO religious materials there.

The Gideons paid hotel owners to have them there. Do you despise money?
  • Mel Gwen 2012/07/06 06:33:01

That's not the issue for me. The issue is respecting another persons religious privacy. I don't care how much money the Gideon people have.

So when you open that drawer to put your clothes in and see that Bible, it makes you annoyed.
  • Mel Gwen 2012/07/07 00:59:40

I didn't type that. I said there's no practical need for any religious materials to be in a hotel room. If I owned the Hotel, there would be none whatsoever.

If given a choice after a long day in a city far from home, I think I'd prefer some quiet time with a Gideon Bible rather than wasting money on pay-per-view porn channels.

I like to read my scriptures from my computer screen - it is clearer and easier to turn the pages, because I don't have to. The print doesn't get dirty, and pages don't wear out, AND, I can highlight to my heart's content. I suspect these Kindles may be the new towels, when it comes to souvenirs, though. (Oh, and I am Christian, so bucking the trend)

Nothing odd about that. I can almost open my Bible to the book and chapter that I'm looking for. Sometimes I surprise myself and open it to the very verse, but that is not very often. King James Bible

No, I must say I think the touch of the bible is great, because it provides some meditative reading, and replacing that with a kindle is ridiculous
