Twitter has been in a bit of a fight this year, attempting to maintain its position as one of the more dominant social networks in the world. Mark Zuckerberg's Facebook remains the king of social media, but Twitter wasn't too far behind at one point. Now with the Facebook-owned Instagram cutting into Twitter's current and potential users, the blue bird is stepping up its game.
In just a few months or less, Twitter will allow users who are tweeting photos to use filters before posting them. If this sounds extremely similar to Instagram, well, that's because it is. One of the major appeals of Instagram is its photo filters that allow users to make their favorite pictures look cool, modern, futuristic, and retro/old school. With Twitter adding photo filters, it will help the social media giant compete with Instagram, while satisfying its current users.
New users that join Twitter after the photo filtering features are added may not even be familiar with Instagram. But Instagram does have its own community of users that aren't even on Facebook or Twitter, making the blue bird's attempt at competition look more like it's just keeping up with modern day social media. However, if Twitter can add photo filters for computer users, that will give it an advantage over Instagram, which only allows filtering via mobile devices.

Instagram is just another tool to make people who take pictures feel like photographers instead of just someone wielding a camera.
