Turtlenecks have gotten a bad rap over the years and while you can always find them in stores, they haven't been widely popular since the '90s... or even hip since the '70s. Fashion always comes back around however, and Lucky Magazine editor Marlien Rentmeester tells us that this fall and winter we will see a turtleneck resurgence. I think the high-necked sweaters can look good or bad depending on how you style them... but what do you think? Are turtlenecks chic or frumpy?

Both, I love them because they're practical in cold weather. So cozy! I don't care what someone thinks of my shirt. They can be chic if they're paired with the right accessories and style.

Depends on the turtleneck. And the person wearing it.

Chic or frumpy....who cares? I've worn them for years in the winter. I consider them a necessity in cold weather. I prefer to keep my neck warm when out of doors in cold weather..... Besides....I wear what I want...not what some "fashion critic" says is "cool".

Personally I never liked Turtlenecks. They are uncomfortable around the neck and not appealing.

I think most of them look frumpy but I like the ones that are more loose around the neck because I don't like to feel like I'm being choked

Indeed I like these. They definitely take a bit of a keen sense of style to not look stupid in them, but the look can be pulled off.

They can look good on certain people with the right 'total' outfit but I just can't wear them. Feels like I'm being strangled all day long by a really weak person.

I love turtleneck tops. Paired with PANTS (not jeans!) they make some of the classiest outfits you can put together. There's sort of an arty/early 1960s bachelor type of hipness to it.

The problem with the comparison with the 90s and 70s is that the clothing then was not understated enough to last. The 70s was thick polyester and ugly colors and the 90s was about super loose fitting clothes and tacky highlighted hair.

It depends on your frame and what you're wearing with it. Done right I think it can look very chic. However, I won't be sporting one anytime soon as it just isn't my look.
