DUBLIN -- Tropical Storm Katia shut down roads and power and led to one death Monday in Ireland and Britain, where residents braced for the strongest wind gusts in 15 years.
Forecasters in both countries said Monday's gusts topped 80 MPH.
In northeast England's County Durham, a driver died after a tree fell on a car on the highway, Durham police said. Officers later warned all drivers to be careful driving through the high winds.
Authorities in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark said they expected gale-force winds to arrive there today.

+2WOW, Katia has covered some territory! I don't think I have ever heard of storms hitting that region. I'm sure they have but I guess it didn't make American news. I certainly live in a vacuum sometimes!reply -
+1From what's been going on so far this season, the best way to avoid hurricanes is to move to Florida! LOL!reply - MBSVirg... BlueMax372 2011/09/14 13:09:05
+1That's pretty damn funny!! Kind of an oxymoron. I guess the jet stream decided to give Florida a vacation this year....hope I didn't talk too soon and put a jinx on you. We have a place in Hallandale and get nervous every hurricane season. No storm shutters but hurricane glass. Seems to work pretty well for us so far!reply - doofiegirl POTL~PWCM~JLA 2011/09/13 20:36:55
