Try this experiment: Be extra cheerful with everyone you come in contact with.

I've been conducting a personal experiment. Lately, I've tried to be extra nice to all those with whom I come in contact: The clerks, the workers in places I go, and all those strangers I see, but don't know personally. Here is the amazing thing. The more I thank these people and sincerely wish them a happy day (and not just the token 'have a nice day' stuff), not only does it rub off on me, but I find I get genuine smiles of appreciation. Try it: If you see someone cleaning in a store, tell them how you appreciate them keeping the place clean. That fast food teen: Tell them you hope that their work day goes well, and that they have some fun planned for when they get off work. The person sitting next to you on the bus who tells you a sad story, tell them you're sorry and that you sincerely hope that things will be better for them.
The funny thing is that the more I try to be genuinely cheerful to others, the happier I feel at the end of the day. Please give it a try. I hope it will bring happiness to your life, as it does to mine. No, it hasn't eliminated all problems, but it sure helps me to have a better perspective on them.

+1Thank you. I'm going back to school soon (too soon, it always seems), so now I have it on my to-do list to make sure I am thanking my coworkers and telling them how much I appreciate what they do.reply - MlssCue... Pele Em... 2012/08/07 03:41:05

+1And, unfortunately, you don't always see the best side of people in customer service. I try to be nice to you guys, even when I have a problem which needs to be resolved. It isn't your fault.reply - Monkey D. Luffy 2012/08/05 08:28:52Comets which look like cats!+2Really? Lolreply

+2It's really hard, but sometimes, even though the natural inclination is to give it back to them, I try to be extra nice instead. It may not help their rude mood, but it make me less likely to sink to their level and keep my own positive outlook, instead.reply - ilstarwars Pele Em... 2012/08/05 06:46:30
+1Well when someone is rude I tend not to be rude back, but instead prove I can be more mature, which seems to infuriate them >:) Reverse psychology at it's best. If you are rude back then you also look like a jerk.reply -

+2In your line of work, I'll bet that stress is often the order of the day. You probably notice how much of a difference you can make with your own attitude!reply - CCRNRT Pele Em... 2012/08/05 06:33:45
+2In the air, you have to have the utmost confidence and cheerfulness goes a long way with the patient and families.. It does workreply -
Yes, it does. So many times, a good outlook and positive attitude can do what medical science cannot do or can't do alone. I'll bet your patients and their families appreciate what you do. I don't know if you remember it on the news, but about a year and a half ago, there was a terrible accident in Egypt where one tour bus literally ripped the side off another. One of my coworkers was on that bus with the man who had been her partner for over 30 years. He died instantly and both her legs were broken. Here is a woman who had her life ripped apart in an instant. Fortunately, she and her partner were veteran travelers who always purchased traveler's insurance. This allowed her to be airlifted back to the states, as soon as she was in stable condition--she'd had to have surgery on her broken legs. Someone like you undoubtedly helped her on that long flight back to the states, and then across country back to the Pacific Northwest.reply - CCRNRT Pele Em... 2012/08/05 06:53:39
+1I'm sure a flight nurse was involved. I remember the accident. It was horrible. For now I fly with a fixed wing organization that transports long distance. I start on 09/09 flying with a helicopter team, where we will be the first at those kinds of scenes. Not a pretty sight, but I feel, this is where I belong. I hope your co-worker is doing ok and has adjusted to all the changes. I know I must display the utmost confidence in those situations and I know a cheerful attitude goes a long way . Not only at the instant it happens, but through all the recoveryreply -
Considering how her life turned upside down, she is doing remarkably well. She walks with a slight limp, but no longer uses any aids. Her attitude is upbeat and positive, which I'm sure has helped her recovery as well. She's an amazing woman. She'd posted a picture on Facebook of the two of them on camels just the day before. Next day? Gone. I'm know a flight nurse was on board from Egypt to the States. I don't know if they made it in two legs--one to East cost and then to Seattle, or if they did it in one. Either way, it must have been a long, difficult flight for her.reply - CCRNRT Pele Em... 2012/08/05 07:10:26
+1I bet it was horrific for her considering all she lost and her injuries as well. I don't pity that flight team at all. I have three combat tours and have seen a lot, I don't know if I could have handled that. I salute her especially and the flight team that brought her herereply -
+1Yes, she is a brave person. I think the thing I respect the most is that in spite of life really throwing her an unexpected curve ball, she's upbeat and cheerful. She could be in a total tailspin, but she smiles and is happy. Even just months after her accident, she came back to school--she teaches preschool to students with special needs, when she could have retired and thrown in the towel. She spoke of her progress and how grateful she was to be getting better, instead of how much she hurt . She's one of those people who are constantly an inspiration.reply - FELINE ... +2Even only hearing a friendly voice calling your name softly makes you, you have to come back to life when you are half conscious . I have experienced it & all the way long , trying to find out how he knew my name kept me awake & not losing my conscience completely . You see , how simple it is ,,reply -
+1I remember the last time I had to ride in an ambulance, the team was cheerful and even though I was hurt (not life threatening, but painful), they gently teased and had me smiling. Great guys!reply -
