Move over, Fido, Spot and Fluffy. Vetstreet.com recently reviewed the pet names that have been trending for the last 12 years, and they sound a lot more like celebrity baby names than, well, monikers for dogs and cats. The names Lola and Stella ranked No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, for both female dogs and cats. For male dogs, Bentley and Diesel ranked No. 1 and No. 2; for male cats, Dexter and Cooper took the tops spots.
Laura Wattenberg, author of "The Baby Name Wizard," sees a "Guys and Dolls-style" trend in current pet names. "Parents are giving pets the more extreme versions of their kids' names," Wattenberg tells vetstreet. "While they're happy to name their children Leo and Max, they aren't quite ready for Lulu or Milo for their kids."
She also thinks the names for female cats are more human and warmer than in the past, showing that people now feel an increased connection to their pets. "The more human names we give our pets, the more family-like a role they tend to play. These names lend a feeling of warmth and personal attachment to the pet," Wattenberg says. Unisex names are also hot, and so are pop-culture influenced names (Piper, Marley, Willow, Ziggy, etc.). What's your favorite trendy pet name?

+6That's CRAZY I got my black lab mix almost 3 years ago and her name Stella! I didn't know that it was considered "trendy". And ironically my sister wanted to name her Lola. But my first dog was name Lexie (We thought the keep the L names going) and that's not on the list, so I'm not THAT trendy...
My little Stella-Wella:
The dogs we've had were Shawnee, Zorr, Shiloh, and Remi. The cats were AJ, Sweet Pea (Sweets), and Savannah.
I also have my beta's; Jenny Bowser, Rainbow, and Katsuya.
Fortune is a (DEMON) bengal cat XD His spots look like coins. Get it, FORTUNE?
Then I have my fishy Ludwig. But that's it XD
My dog's name is Nike. Not after the brand name, and not pronounced like the brand name. It's pronounced the proper way: nee-kay. In reference to the Greek goddess of victory.
I've also had two cats, one was named Bailey, as in Bailey's Irish Creme because he was kind of the same color. He was a blue point Birman that we got for free because he wasn't conformant for showing. The other cat was a "mutt" named Rogue after the comic book character.
EX: max, Henry, Bella,...
My favourite names for cats are probably Milo, Toby and Maggie.... and dogs? Not a clue.
