Trackr, 9/11 Rescue Dog, Cloned in Best Friends Again Contest: Should BioArt International be allowed to clone?

Creamy June 19, 2009 00:28:53

Trackr, a German Shepherd that searched for 9/11 survivors at the World Trade Center, has been cloned after his owner, James Symington, won a Best Friends Again contest. The Best Friends Again contest was run by BioArt International and cloned Trackr five times. German Shepherd puppies, Trustt, Valor, Prodigy, Solace, and Deja Vu are

Trackr was cloned by cloning specialist Hwang Woo-Suk of South Korea. BioArt International typically charges about $150,000 to clone a pet.

But the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says that cloned animals, (in this case, dogs) is dangerous because cloning has not been perfected and anatomical and physiological differences can cause the cloned animal pain.

Should BioArt International be allowed to clone animals?

That's stupid. There are plenty of unwanted, sweet animals at animal shelters everywhere, so why just create another?

BOO HISS!!! There are hundreds of thousands of perfectly acceptable animals euthanized every year because there aren't enough homes. Why would anyone do this? AWFUL!

Yes, why can't you just wait for nature to do it's thing? Cloning is just unnatural..it's weird. People need to do better things with their time.

As long as a balance in the population of animals is kept. For every good animal they clone, a dangerous animal should be executed.

    I think BioArt International...

I would have to know much more about advantages as well as potential consequences before making an intelligent decision. To say something like this should be allowed or forbidden seems to be way too simplistic an approach.
