Trackr, a German Shepherd that searched for 9/11 survivors at the World Trade Center, has been cloned after his owner, James Symington, won a Best Friends Again contest. Trackr was cloned by cloning specialist Hwang Woo-Suk of South Korea. BioArt International typically charges about $150,000 to clone a pet.
But the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says that cloned animals, (in this case, dogs) is dangerous because cloning has not been perfected and anatomical and physiological differences can cause the cloned animal pain.
