Forget the last minute running around for mom and dad. Toys “R” Us is launching its first-ever free reservation service that lets parents reserve --with a 20 percent down payment, mind you -- the hottest toys of the holiday season.

“We want customers to get what they want,” Toys “R” Us CEO Jerry Storch said when announcing the new service at an event previewing the upcoming holiday shopping season. Do our kids really need the hottest toys of the season? Or do you think we're spoiling our kids a little too much?

NYDAILYNEWS.COM reports:
God forbid your kid doesn’t get his favorite toy at Christmastime!

Ipods , Ipads, cell phones, brand name clothing, $70 shoes, trips around the USA, flat screen tv, laptops, yeah I would say so but I think you should create a fine line . I give my kids these things but I also make sure they understand I work hard for it and they have to work hard too. Clean the house, babysit, do laundry, ect. They are not entitled they earn it. To each their own but I love mine enough to give them the best life possible.

This is just a layaway program...sheesh people. Are kids spoiled?....Yes many kids are. But just b/c you want to get your kid an "it" toy doesn't mean they are spoiled. If it really something my son wants (not something he wants b/c everyone else has it), then I don't see the problem (as long as I like the toy and it is reasonably priced). There is no reason to go crazy at Christmas, and kids should learn to do without, but I think this falls in the category of everything in moderation.

Yes, kids today are spoiled too much, but I can't see that it has a lot to do with the hot toy reservation. Any time I've wanted to get the newest thing for one of my kids or grandchildren, it's been because I wanted to get it for them, not because they even asked for it. The spoiling that bothers me is the lack of training in manners, appropriateness in speaking and behavior at various places, work ethic, and the like. As a middle school teacher I routinely had to teach my students that it was okay to call their peers "dawg" but not appropriate to call me, the principal, a policeman, a judge, or, in fact, any adult that. Kids who grow up without the basics I mentioned don't have a chance of keeping a job or of even being looked at with respect by adults and especially by authority figures.

Yes! God help us! WE are spoiling our children way too much. My grandson just turned 7 and he got so much stuff for his birthday but it wasn't enough for him. He wanted to know where rest of his presents were. No more toys for him this year. Grandpa finally realized he had to stop buying him a toy every time they went to town.
I believe I'll have to stop buying at Toys "R" Us.

While I think the toy reservation is a good idea by Toys R Us, we're definetely spoiling kids too much. As in, most of the 'toys' that are bought for the children I see end up being Blackberries and smart phones.

Giving fancy toys to kids is teaching them that they don't have to do anything in order to receive something great. Even if the kids do basic chores around the house, it's still teaching them that doing the basic things to maintain a household will earn them great and expensive things.

Half of my generation has unrealistic expectations of free stuff being just handed to them. They want to get the best jobs right out of college, even if their degree was in something fairly useless in the job market, like liberal arts. They want the best jobs, the highest pay, and the best benefits, without having to put forth all of the time and effort that it actually takes to get these things. Even worse are the people who think that simply being alive should award them free food, healthcare, shelter, clothes, and all of the newest gadgets. I know so many people who are on SSI for disabilities that they faked, who do nothing but complain because, even though their free income pays for their basic necessities, they can't afford all the fancy crap that people who work 40 hours a week can afford.

Being spoiled as kids with toys and stuff, and not having to do much, if anything, to earn them, is what created these adults.

I am not happy with our off spring today. Spoiled, lazy, rude, disrespectful, unmotivated, bully's and unfocused brats. Their parents have tried to replace love with things. They resemble their parents in many ways. We need a dose of family values. I mentioned on a blog about how my family ate meals together. I got several interesting reply's. Parents if you are not eating meals as a family, why did you have kids?

Whatever happened to kids using their imagination? I really do pity the generations of today because they are all like sheep, there's no longer any individuality! Parents are overworked and can't spend the time they want to with their kids so they try to compensate with some new Barbie doll or Laser gun whatever when really kids dont need all this plastic crap, they just need to know they are loved and cared for ;)

It annoys me that there are 8 year olds who have cell phones and their own laptops. I didn't get my first cell phone until I was almost 15 and I got a netbook when I was 16. I bought my first actual laptop when I was 18, with my own money.

I think it would SAVE TIME & MONEY !! You make reservations for the "junk" you need to buy. Pay for it. Take it home, PAID FOR IN ADVANCE !! Give it to the kids OR adults?? No running all over town !! The merchant doesn't order too much of what does not sell ! Everybody makes out hopefully for a RELAXED holiday ?? I hope it doesn't put the "smaller & conmventional stores out of business !! I onl;y purchase about 2 gifts fior the holiday !! I generally give money to organizations thast "benefit" other people. I purchase my own "gift end of january or february.

A lot of children have been spoiled too much since time began. Either by overly doting parents or, the "privileged" and wealthy ones who think giving children material things equates love. Or it eases a guilty conscience. But that has nothing to do with the service that "Toys R Us" is offering. The service merely affords the parent who has a busy working lifestyle to have one less thing to worry about. Just because a "hot toy" is reserved, then picked up, doesn't necessarily mean the child gets it that minute! I'd see the service as more of "spoiling" the parents! Which can be a good thing! :D I see nothing wrong with giving your child the "hottest toy", so long as it is presented to them at an appropriate time for an appropriate reason.

Yes society in general are spoiling kids, my mum is one of the worlds worse for spoiling my son - she literally out buys me on every event, I buy him 7 presents at Christmas as I don't want him growing up to be a brat and she literally buys him 20, that's not right and I've challenged her on it, but she won't listen, then she tries to get around it by lying that various relatives have given her presents to bring down as she's visiting me (yeah, right) I've phoned those people and they receive me confused as hell! My son will need a 2nd bedroom before he is 4yrs old the rate she's going at!

Err, yes. People try to replace time and love with materialistic goodies. This is bad. Children need time and love, not expensive toys and gadgets.

Luckily some parents still understand. Yay for stay-at-home mums and part-time working parents.

Children who naturally love being outdoors and exercising playfully are being lured into being materialistic game junkies. "Spoil" is an excellent word for it.

There should not be such a thing as a "hot toy." Toy fads are adults playing children.

This is one reason why the children are out of control today, because parents are sparing the rod and spoiling the children....then you wonder why the children are killing their parents and being disobedient. "Spare the rod Spoil the child"!

I used to get expensive things only one on my Bday or Xmas usually Xmas. I played outside, didn't get a cell till I was 14 1/2. Kids now days unless poor dk what playing outside means. Its riding your bike or scooter, not a power wheel car or pocket bike. Playing inside with Barbies or g.I Joe's and board games, not Ipads an IPhones wtf is wrong with parents an the world today.

So, you're assuming that children from wealthy families don't know what playing outside means? That's ridiculous. Unless its dark, or freezing, my daughter rarely plays inside.

My daughter, who is six, has all of the best things. I would NEVER pick something up from the side of the road and let her play with it. She appreciated what she has, and of she chooses to disrespect something that she does have, she will no longer have it. Does my daughter have more than most kids? Sure. But she works hard, just as my husband and I have.

Well most don't. Like my brother. He's bad is rude to my parents in ways where I'd get beat with the belt or stand in the corner for hrs grounded from my toys an friend for a wk. An what does he get? No ice cream for the night like really he's just rotten. I rarely give my 3 yr old desserts. Kids like my brother are scarce I hope or the world is gonna be way worse than it is already progressively getting.

Your brother sounds pretty annoying to be around. It's a shame your parents aren't taking care of this behavior now, it'll only get worse in the future.

That's what I said but he even still sleeps in their bed. I kicked my 3 yr old outta mine at 18 mths. My 5 mth old just started but its cause she don't have a crib an knows how to sit up an pull herself into a sitting position so I don't trust her in it I'm a light sleeper so any move she makes I'm awake. But I should be getting a crib soon. Idk how its gonna fit though. I already got my queen bed an my 3 yr Oldsmobile toddler bed if I had a dresser I'd be able to fit it cause I have 4 baskets of clothes. but I don't.
