Town Designates Easy Parking Spots for Women: Is It Sexist or Sweet?

The German town of Triberg is now designating parking spots for men and women. The parking spots assigned to women are much easier to maneuver compared to the men's, less convenient designated spots. The mayor of Triberg went on to state, "As a rule, men are a little better at such challenges.”

Nonetheless, several studies find that women are indeed better parkers than men. For a British study that came out this year, researchers monitored 2,500 drivers in 700 parking lots in Britain for one month. While women took longer to park, they were more likely to leave their cars in the middle of the spot. Women proved to be better at finding places and more accurate in lining up the car before backing in. Also, they were more likely to use parking strategies recommended by driving instructors.

didn't woman want "equal" rights? whats equal in that?

oh right i forgot equal right idiots are never about equal rights, they are always about getting more rights for themselves then others!

That is not right. Women are just as capable as men. However those breeders always want easy when they have kids. Suck it up girls, you want them you get to suffer with them. The only reason I could agree with special parking would be for safety sake. Men would still take those spaces. I am sure. Some big fat redneck in a big loud truck. Men are so greedy..

Does motive always have to play a factor? I have read some of the comments on here, and I for one could have cared less where I park before I read them. Now that I see it, I kinda wish it would swing my way instead! I would re-designate the spots for men only and put a big sign up that said " Booyah bitches! You didn't want 'em so now their ours!"

    I feel safe parking now.

Any time something is given to help women it's sweet.
What kind of person, would consider it "sexist" to *PROTECT* women, as these parking spots are because of visual and lighting?

Yeah, I know "What Kind", the same kind of person that *DOESN'T* wants women to carry guns for their own protection, leaving them at the mercy of criminals.

Why don't they let men take spots and not men!

Terrible ... because what we need more of is FAMILY men ... men who act and women who act on behalf of their families ... not the nonsense Individualism that has run rife for 40 yrs now!!!

Women are a lot tougher these days. The Pentagon is underway making it easier for women to be in combat in the military.
  • MissGates 2012/07/15 00:50:55
I'm a better driver/parker than many men I know. Some men can't park, some women can't park. It shouldn't only be about women, anyone can park like a dumbass (and many people do, which kinda frustrates me -.-").

Others have said we should accept the diversity of different cultures when it comes to all sorts of vile and evil things. But apparently, recognizing a challenge many women have and accommodating them for it is beyond the pale. ;-)

Making men park in inconveniently located areas is as bad as a girl demanding that her boyfriend buy her expensive things. People are always taking advantage of chivalry

  • raine Taxman 2012/07/16 02:35:23
Oh that i would like. Every time I go out some fat jerk in a big truck is revving or honking. I drive a Toyota Prius and I don't need to go fast and crazy. I sure wish speed laws would be enforced, oh and that bald men were banned from having trucks

I thought I was going to get butchered for that comment (my wife dared me to write that!). :). P.S. I have a thinning hair spot and drive a truck, but it burns too much gas to rev it up. Also, I always forget to use the horn when someone cuts me off. I do have issues with the big rigs. Overall, I think original comment is sexist.

The only reason women sometimes have more trouble parking than men is because men keep telling them they can't do it. I happen to be pretty good at parking.

    Even though I'm a girl, I think that's just sexist :\
To me, it's only fair to have "easy" parking spots for:
    -People with disabilities
    -adults with babies or toddlers

Great idea will save a lot of knocks and scrapes. Women shouldn't get a driving licence if they can't park properly. Keep women off the roads....

The problem is that as a society we are far too quick to judge things as 'sexist' or 'racist' or a form of bullying. They're bigger parking spaces, for crying out loud. Besides, if my mum's anything to go by, women are crappy parkers. If the parking spots are easier to get in and out of, and they make parking a little bit easier, then who the Hell are we to complain?

So, men giving women special treatment is chivalrous when we see fit, but chauvinism when we don't? Most men I know insist on paying for dinner, but women think that's chivalrous. And they open doors for their girls. Chivalrous. Giving us bigger parking spaces to make parking that bit easier for us. Chauvinism.

Yes, I read the article. Who gives a damn what the mayor says? It doesn't really matter what the reasoning behind the matter is, the point is that it will do good. I've hit a whole bunch of other cars with my door when it;s windy; wider parking spaces will make it less likely for that to happen. There's more room to get prams out of the car. And it generally just makes parking that little bit easier.

The problem is that we've been brought up in a society that looks down on everything, has too much health and safety for it's own good and considers everything to be prejudiced, sexist, racist, homophobic or some other form of bullying. Our generation has been molly-coddled and taught that if we don't like something that's been said we can label it as bullying. It's a harmless act that will in some way bring about some good. Don't get your knickers in a twist; the suffragette movement was 100 years ago. We have equal rights and we're not treated differently.

If you don't want to be upset or offended by things like this, just don't take them offensively. It's not a big deal, it's not a violation of rights and it's not even really sexist.

I never accept "chivalry". I think it's stupid. I accept kindness though. But did you read what that man said? Quote:

The mayor of Triberg went on to state, "As a rule, men are a little better at such challenges.”

How is that CHIVALROUS? He didn't say, "oh I want to do something nice for a lady". He pretty much said women aren't as good at parking as men. He's saying they're are inferior to men in that area, which isn't true. So it is, by definition, chauvinism.

Easier parking spaces should only be given out to the ones who need it: the handicapped and the elderly.
