Totally sad...I saw this the first time going through clips for class and this one broke my heart! Animals are so faithful and just want to be loved and cared for.

I know there are A LOT of loving and caring friends here on SH that have cared, loved, and lost a beloved pet. Please send me your stories about your pet(s) and how you came to bring this little one into your home. I would like to share with my class on why NOT to give up on these little ones that are so in need of a loving, caring home and how we TOO are in need of their love and companionship! Thank you and may each and every one of you always be bless...and please I know times are hard but give what you can to your local shelter.
With all my love,
Adidas

You!

I lost two beloved dogs 6 months apart, little Ben a 5 pound toy poodle and Gabby a Shih tzu, both died from canine epilepsy. We spent thousands of dollars trying to save them, but to no avail. Last year we stopped at the local humane society and found a beautiful big girl, we rescued her and she's been great! Here's Lila!

My dog found me, it was a hot summer night and I had no A/C at the time so I walked down to the local gas station for a cold soda and while crossing the road something brushed up against my ankle startling me. It was this little blackish brown furball of a puppy probably no more than five weeks old. I took it home and posted found dog posters around the neighbor hood and kept her on the front porch in case the owner came looking for her. After a week without anyone claiming her I took her to work hoping a coworker might adopt her but no luck.

It was just as well because that little puppy that I could hold in one hand when I found her became my best friend for the next 18,1/2 years until I lost her to cancer. I took her everywhere I went and she probably logged more miles hiking in the mountains with me than most people ever do. My only complaint was that she liked to swim in the creeks while I was trying to fish or go after a flopping trout that I pulled into my canoe. For years whenever I grabbed my camping or fishing gear she would literally bounce off the walls with excitement.

Taking her to the vet to be put down was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it was the last thing I could do for my old friend as she was suffering.

Thank you so much for sharing your story...yes you have tears rolling down my face! She is most likely waiting for you...her best friend so you can travel the mountains once again. God bless you. Have you encounter another friend in your life since she passed away? You sound like you have so much love to offer!

No I haven't, I took in a pit bull puppy (I'm guessing around four or five months old?) for a few weeks last year when my jerk neighbor moved out and abandoned it. I had a real hard time finding a home for it being a pit bull and all and just when I had resigned myself to keeping it I got a call from a friend saying that his daughter in law who lived in the country might take it in. Although I had grown attached to the little fellow a home in the country with a family to love and protect was probably the best thing for it.

Sounds like you are still showing love towards animals another way...you are finding homes for other animals in need. That in itself speaks for itself - thank you!

Dogzilla was born under a shed in the Kentucky hill country. A friend of mine dragged the puppies out from under that shed and after finding homes for most of the rest, drove to my home and gave me the runt of the litter. One other, a female, is still alive and well. She's at a farm with kids in Georgia. Parvo got the rest.

He's the latest of our 'acquisitions'. Similar stories for the rest...all rescues. They've all been rescues. Here he is with his two favorite things, my GD and snow. He was just a pup then.

Just 2, beginning to broaden out and 'grow a brain', not so puppy crazed...thank goodness! I'm training him to backpack and pull and he will be qualified as a therapy/service dog.

Hey, I'm NOT all that altruistic, he'll by MY service dog. When I fall he helps me to get up, or gets me to someplace I can pull myself up. I didn't teach him that...but it counts as his being a service animal. I'm just working with his apparent natural abilities.

All of my animals are rescues. One of my cats, Fogg, was a frightened stray that we finally trapped. We took her in, got her healthy and she's now my little chunkamunda:

I found Smiley running around loose in the middle of the street. No collar, no tags. Picked her up and took her home. She lived until 18 years old and was the funniest, sweetest dog ever:
