Ah, I was hoping someone would mention that. Aquatic creatures that have fins and scales have been shown to be safer to eat than those that don't. Catfish have fins but no scales, and their porous skin absorbs much more toxins than scaly fish. As for shellfish (with no fins or scales), allergies and poisoning have always been a risk, especially in ancient times before scientific monitoring of red tide.

I think that particular Old Testament "Law" is basically just some sound and insightful health advice about seafood.

Nope, I'm a vegetarian.

And either way the idea of eating shellfish freaks me out

I mean

they're like water bugs

they're arthropods like insects

That right there is about the only way I really like it. A little butter, a little paprika, and a 500 deg F oven. Toasts the shell and gives a nice extra level of flavor.

I like it fine enough. Don't care for it at all boiled or steamed. Any body tells you that monk fish pictured below is just like lobster, don't listen. It's almost as expensive now, has somewhat SIMILAR texture, but the flavor is no where near close.

I prefer:

Dungeness Crab

Tempura or fried shrimp

fried oysters

Fried scallops

You can keep the rest of the shellfish

I just don't like them raw. But I also don't like them OVER cooked where they are all dried out. Another way I like them is picked fresh then cook them along the edge of the campfire, and dip them in butter.
