To Test Or Not To Test--That Is The Question

I do not think the state should have the right to be performing drug tests on anyone. The drug testing of recipients of government subsidies violates the Fourth Amendment's protection against unreasonable searches. Protecting the integrity of the Bill of Rights is far more important than protecting our financial investments.

If states don't have the right to drug test anyone, why are they enacting laws to do just that? I'm asking cuz I'm curious. I figured if they have the right to test prospective welfare recipients then CEO's who receive much more in corporate welfare than poor people who get regular welfare should be tested also.

I never believed people getting welfare should be tested. I must admit you have a good point there regarding corporate CEO's. What's good for the goose is good for the gander!

I be thinking that drug testing people on (or trying to get) welfare is a ploy to further humiliate people who are in need.

I agree, ALL corporate welfare needs to end. I do think it's only fair that until it ends & states requiring low income welfare recipients to pass drug tests as a condition of getting PA that we hold these companies to the same standard.

I disagree because, though the word "welfare" is used in both cases, we're still talking apples and oranges...and I want no additional, unnecessary bureaucrats. Best wishes!

I want all government employees tested including but not limited to Politicians, TSA, Congress, Senate, FDA,FAA, DOD,DOC,DOI DOJ, DHS,DOL,FBI,CIA, NSA, Etc ETc

Our taxes are paying their salaries. They should be tested too.

We poor people ( especially us damn working poor ) are the crap of the barrel and should always be considered druggies and low life. A CEO laundering welfare given to their company by the government is so much better than any poor person needing help.

You know, Uncle Sam didn't want to test us for drugs when he took our money – that is, when we paid heavy into this social safety net all those years in the form of our taxes...

The people who are receiving welfare benefits are – ALL of them are – taxpayers. Most have paid into the system in the past through their payroll tax withholdings or when they filed a 1040 tax return, and even those few who never paid an income tax have paid and still pay numerous excises: sales tax, gas tax, cigarette tax, etc, as well as untold numbers of taxes and fees indirectly, which are passed onto them by manufacturers, but for which they themselves are not the subject.

This is why they're called 'entitlements': 'Entitlement' isn't a dirty word – that's what they are. If you pay on an insurance policy, whether for 50 years or for a month, you are entitled to whatever benefit your policy states you are to receive should you experience a loss. The same goes for public entitlements – they're essentially an insurance policy we all pay into, from which we are entitled to certain benefits should we experience loss (hardship). No one would suggest we drug test insurance policy holders to see if their insurer must pay them. (Well, it's the same damn thing.)

Hell yeah! And CEOs can afford drugs better then the lower class can.

I'm not undecided, but the answer I want to click isn't there. Constitutionally, enforced drug testing is wrong. It constitutes an illegal search. But it anyone is going to have to submit to it without probable cause, then everyone should have to be tested.

I think that's a good idea but, why stop there?...Anybody who should need Government funds should be tested for drugs. If you want a driver's license you should get drug tested... Why not test all the Congressman and rich people who make over a million dollars a year for drugs? Why does all the drug testing have to be just for mostly the poor and convicts and people on probation?

I'm with you Manuel, if the CONS are gonna single out the poor who apply for government assistance then others who are getting taxpayer money should be drug tested too.

IMHO they should be. They're receiving "welfare" from the government. State legislatures are passing laws requiring people who apply for public assistance to be drug tested. SH CONS justify these laws saying their bosses require them to pass drug tests. As my momma usta say, "What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
