If you're interested in these sorts of things, you've probably heard of "attachment parenting," in which mothers breastfeed for longer than the recommended six months to one year, partake in "co-sleeping" with their children and wear the kids in BabyBjorns. Well, Time magazine chose to take a look at the philosophy for their May 21 cover story, which they illustrate by featuring a mother breastfeeding her nearly 4-year-old son on the cover.

While some are calling the image overly sensational, it does illustrate the parenting method espoused by Dr. Bill Sears. Time takes a look at how Sears came to his philosophy, and interviews moms who believe in his theories, like "cover mom" Jamie Lynne Grumet. Of course, the mom they chose for the cover is 26, blonde, slim and attractive (we're just sayin'...). Do you think the cover goes too far?

Breast feeding a 4 year old? If your kid is big enough to stand and ask you for food, he's big enough to use a fork.

Also, where are the fathers in all of this? I can't imagine there are very many men on board with this, and if they are, they're lying.

That is quite possibly the best cover photo I've ever seen. It's simple, and sexy, and cute, and normal. It's a shame that some people are so morally misguided that they cannot see it as I do but, the instant anyone tries to expand censorship policies to include women breastfeed, I'll be there to oppose it.

Only because the kid on the cover is way to old to be breast feed. Other than that I don't care about public breast feeding its just breast men have them to and refuse to wear tops, not every women want to see a guys chest in every situation. >.>

Careful there, with the stereotyping. I am as conservative as they come and nursed my child until he was almost 4. However, I would not have put it on a magazine cover!

Any adult nudity in public is "indecent exposure". I'm not against 'Nursing Mothers',...I'm against 'Naked Mothers'. (Children are being exposed to this behavior in public) -TIME magazine's been a progressive-rag for decades!-

I agree that progressives are destroying America, and that Time is a progressive rag. It just sounded like you were stereotyping mothers who nursed for extended periods. You were not specific, and I made assumptions.

Nursing mothers can certainly do it in public without displaying ALL. I would guess this mother would probably not have a problem with displaying her wares in other types of magazines either.

Your right! I didn't mean to sound so formal, it's just all my family are either police, military or lawyers. I just got over doing 17 days of jury duty, whew, it felt like a 6 months! (They paid her handsomely for that spread, and I'm sure it's not the 1st time!) Nothings more beautiful than a mother nursing her child, but in private,...

and your kid was walking, obviously, and i 'm sure eating solid Food. i'm sure he came up to you, pulled out a nipple, started to feded? Way too old, he should have been directed to the refrigerator. i remember once talking to a Pediatrician, who said that, despite common belief, kids don't need milk after 2 years old

Time probably went too far because Americans think the rearing of children should be left to day care centers, TV and video games, or baby sitters. Also I think that the breast feeding of children has become "old school" and poisonous formulas the norm.

Breast feeding is best for the child. The length of duration is the mothers business.

I say the more time parents and children spend together and bonding, the better.

it should not be her business, the duration. Do you see anything wrong with a mother breast feeding until a kid is 10 years old? why not? When they are old enough to walk, and walk up to their mother, pull out a nipple---too okld. this kid 3-4? 5/? Should be directed to the refrigerator. To Breast feed a kid that old--child abuse.

When my son went to Iraq, I was fainted. I didn't sleep & sick for 4 years. Last year, I

lost 4 family Members in 3 months and I went crazy; my pets died, I grieved for them.

I got an earful of REPROACH from lots of PEOPLE; they SCOLDED me for my

misery, saying they don't want to be around me, so I disappeared. But I WAS quietly

in my grief.

what if she decides to breast feed until he's 5-6-or 8-9, they then should not have a choice. today, people lose their kids when they don't know how to treat them. Where do you draw the line? this is Abuse
