A couple of weeks ago, a woman reportedly won $900,000 in court from a guy who gave her genital herpes. According to the report, the man failed to inform her of his disease and refused to use protection. But we wanted to know if the public feels that victims of "suprise STDs" should receive compensation, or if they should still be held personally accountable for neglecting to use protection. I'm still furious about the lack of thought most people have on this issue.

While I don't disagree that the woman was foolish for not using protection, I also see that what the man did was with malice. He knowingly exposed her to an illness. Thats criminal.

It seems like most people really only care about branding the woman with any label - that of "slut" - for having sex after four dates. This without knowing what happened during those four dates and having no concept of what its like to be around the age of 50.

I see a lot of hateful and ignorant internet trolls out there who care more about attacking a woman than saying one thing about a man who would lie about an illness and infect someone with it.

He should have manned up and told her he had herpes. She trusted the wrong person and will pay for it for the rest of her life, but I really believe he's the one that's at fault here. That coward knew he had a incurable disease and had sex unprotected sex anyway, KNOWING that it was going to spread to her.

I'm sorry, but that's messed up and there should definitely be legal repercussions for it.

After paying her that money i'll bet he never has sex unprotected again and he tells his partners in the future! However I have always felt that once you contract an std it's game over... no more sex for you. Get one of those Japanese android sex bots.

Anyone who knowingly lies about anything that puts someone else at risk (physical, financial, whatever) should be punished severely (physical - whack it off, financial - take their assets, ...). If there is no enforcement of laws then there is no point in having them (hear that people who use cell phones in cars?). Financial compensation may be the only way in this society to send the message, but it seems like the wrong way to mete out justice. There is something scary/right about the code of Hammurabi that has been lost in contemporary society.

I am sorry If one gets an STD from screwing around. One is responsible for their own sex and use of protection. if said one gets the clap or herpes, oops, one should foot the doctor bill! it is getting ridiculous!

I don't know who plays the court cost... i've heard at times it's the loser of the case that has to pay them. Or both sides have to split them on top of what ever the ruling is.

I'm guessing the tax payers pay for court cost for criminal trials and don't for the rest. From the sounds of it... the women sued the man and there for not a criminal trial, and the loser probably had to pay for the court cost and/or had to pay the women the court cost so she could pay off her part of the court cost (a round about way of making the loser pay)

In most states you pay a filing fee and that is it....the Judges, and other are on the public dime. Now if the loser pays all that would be excellent.

Bottom line.....she or anyone should insist on protection or keep their pants on.

What can I say; you have to take control of your own health! This woman is 49; she's old enough to know that you shouldn't have sex with someone is inconsiderate enough to refuse to wear a condom. It's one thing for people to go sleeping around with strangers who might not even know they're infected. But the woman in this case wasn't being irresponsible. She met this man through an exclusive and expensive online dating service- eHarmony, which means they were matched up by a complicated examination. They emailed each other and then spoke on the phone before meeting in person. Then she dated him three times and got to know him pretty well before consenting to unprotected sex. From her point of view it seemed like she'd covered all the bases and found somebody she could live with.

But she wasn't the one being irresponsible, rather HE was irresponsible for taking advantage of her trust and knowingly and deliberately infecting her through rough sex. He's a predator and he's not the only one out there. There are a lot of screwed up people who are deliberately infecting other people. I consider it a form of assault, and in the case of a terminal disease like HIV, it's murder. The woman is a victim of the guy's deception and no reasonable action on her part could have protected her from him. She deserves his entire estate while he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.

The public has been taken for a ride. and when that happens humans will put humans in prison. Humans will act like the devil not acting like jesus at all. I am way ahead on whats what,a nd what to do about it, and how to prevent whatever. Those STDs have real good icons to make a name seem to be be impossoing. You are being fooled.
