The Invisible Bike Helmet: Would You Pay $600 for an Airbag for Your Head?

Anna Haupt and Terese Alstinat created the first "invisible" bicycle helmet. According to TechCrunch, "The invisible bicycle helmet uses rechargeable battery-powered accelerometers and gyroscopes that detect the typical motions involved in a bike crash. They trigger a tiny gas inflator which instantly fills a nylon airbag with helium. The bag forms a hood around your head that cushions the impact of the street, a car, or anything else you slam into."

The product and company, named Hövding, began as the industrial design master’s thesis of the Swedish duo. Their motivation to revolutionize the bicycle helmet stems from their dislike of current helmet appearance and complaints over how uncomfortable they are. The inflatable helmet only works once and has a $600 price tag. Will you be next in line to purchase one of the cranial airbags?

For one, you can only use it once and it is $600. Second, I don't even know how safe that would be. To me, I don't think those bags would protect your head as much as a regular helmet would. And third, I like motorcycle helmets just the way they are--this I wouldn't trust as it does not look safe one bit.

More than I would part with when a conventional helmet sells for a fraction.
But let's discuss the price on the model.......

In the Netherlands & the Orient where bicycles out-number cars, they've had no real need for helmets. Unril that happens here (Society here has a serious Co-Dependency problem with cars), provide segregated areas for each to travel on & maybe have licensing & liability insurance for adult riders since many are scofflaws of the Rules of the Road. This may sound draconian but if (all) keep eschewing common courtesy this has to be done until human-powered /∨ motorized vehicles share the road in peace. Also, keep RAPID wheels (some scooters can reach 15MPH) off the sidewalk, they belong on the rideways instead.

I never rode a bike so maybe I shouldn't even have an opinion. It would seem worth the price if it works like it should and when it should.

Well... I can decide before my death if it's for organ donation ,scientific purposes or for nothing at all.If i choose it to be for scientific purposes and it's by some illness that i went through my life or i was too fat or too skinny or what ever can be with a human being that i don't know and it's not good for all those strange people that love science ,biology, chemistry(and so on,and so on) It's just better for me .I'll be intact from aliens hands x3

China has a thriving transplant industry using political prisoners, if they foreclose on the debt the States owes them they'll likely be setting up shop there & maybe a chain of restaurants serving humans à la "Soylent Green". Special on Foie Gras (plentiful).

Just over a century ago, Psychiatrist were called ALIENISTs because their client's cognition were 'alien' to them.
In a way, I'm like Mr. Spock, half human, half alien.

Sign an organ-donor card for the right, 'do not resuscitate' is also assumed rather than taxing the medical system. Evolution in Action.

Sorry, but I'm not stupid enough to spend $600 on a bike helmet when I can buy one for much cheaper. I'm not an organ donor nor do I plan to ever be. I could care less what you think of me because everyone is "guilty until proven innocent" with me. You're guilty of being many "things". There are lots of words that I would love to say to you, but I'd get arrested for many crimes, and you're not worth it.
