Chanel introduced the little black dress in 1926.
The Chanel Suit.

Coco Chanel in knit jersey slacks.
Chanel originally made the slacks for herself but in 1929 she offered them to her customers. Made of knit jersey, a fabric she had been using for years, they were an immediate hit with wealthy women.
The beginning of the Chanel brand.
Launched in 1924, Chanel No. 5 was the first perfume to be made entirely of synthetic scents. Perfumes has always been made from natural oils which faded quickly and had to be re-applied. Not for the modern woman!
Ropes of faux pearls and gold bangles.
"Jewelry should be an adornment," Chanel said, "not an expression of wealth." Chanel loved costume jewelry and always wore. The ropes of pearls contrasted perfectly with her sleek designs.
The quilted hand bag.
The Chanel quilted handbag is perhaps the perfect purse. It looks today as it did when Chanel first designed it, a hallmark of good design. Together with her perfume, it defined the idea of a Chanel brand.
The Chanel Empire.
This simple, clean logo says it all.
The little black dress, the suit, costume jewelry, and slacks are all attributed directly to her. Chanel was the first designer to create what we call sports wear, the first to use knit jersey, and the first to create a perfume for her brand. (She was the first to even have a brand.) Many of her original designs are still made today exactly as they looked 50 years ago. The Chanel Suit, the quilted handbag, the ropes of faux pearls, and the gold buttons to name a few.
Coco Chanel disliked the word "fashion". She said, "Fashion fades; only style remains the same." The Chanel style has lasted long enough for history to crown her "The Grande Dame of Chic Design".
Other great Chanel quotes:
