The 'Chinplant' Was the Fastest-Growing Cosmetic Procedure in 2011: Would You Get One?

When we think of cosmetic procedures, we think of breasts and Botox. But the fastest-growing cosmetic plastic surgery procedure in 2011 was ... the "chinplant," according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Los Angeles Times reports.

"The chin and the jawline are among the first areas to show signs of aging," Dr. Malcolm Z. Roth, the organization's president, said in a statement. "People are considering chin augmentation as a way to restore their youthful look just like a facelift or eyelid surgery."

chinplants

Overall, chin implants were up 71 percent over 2010, and split almost evenly between men and women (who may be trying to look young to compete in the workplace, the group suggests). However, the top four surgeries were still the ones you've heard the most about: breast augmentation (over 300,000 procedures), nose jobs (over 240,000), liposuction (over 200,000) and eyelid surgery (nearly 200,000).

The face-life made the top five for the first time since 2004, and lip augmentation and cheek implants also rose in popularity. Botox, which just celebrated its 10th birthday, was the most popular "minimally invasive" procedure. So ... would you get a chinplant to look younger? Or are you happy with the chin you were born with, thank you very much?

Opposite. This girl has a severe underbite. She needs an orthognatic surgery. Well she got it because I saw the after photo somewhere.

yes. ofcourse there are necessary instances where this surgery is abosolutely needed. But if its become the number one csometic surgery since 2010, there are a majority of people getting it leisurely without real need. that, in my opinion, is ridiculous

Is this you? - I think it's a fake - looks a bit like a hamster - If it was my chin or neck really, I would want it reduced, personally. No offense intended

It doesn't only effect your chin, it affects your cheeks/jaw and can make that your whole face look longer or shorter

They'd be better off getting a nose job

WRONG. It's about BALANCE. Having a nose job won't solve a receding chin lol come on. Chin implants are nothing new. A strong chin and jawline is a sign of beauty and strenght.

I know about aesthetic balance in the facial structure. If someone had a really weak abnormal chin then yes I can see why they would want to get a chin implant. But most people have regular chins, and adding to it would not make your nose any smaller, or make your forehead or whatever else it is any less prominent, it would just give you a big ugly chin. For most people a nose job would make a big enough difference to their face. And a masculine chin and jaw line is manly for a woman, but each to their own. Anyway, in my personal opinion, getting stuff like chin implants, nose jobs, boob jobs or whatever it is is always noticable, I always can tell when someone has had plastic surgery or injections, it does look unnatural. It looks good in pictures of celebrities because they are airbrushed and altered, but if you ever saw a celebrity in person with a 'perfect nose' or 'perfect chin' you would see that they actually look odd and unnatural in real life. But if someone really had an issue, then yeah go for it, it's your life. You can do whatever you want. You can take or leave my advice.

If my chin recedes too far when I'm older, I would definitley consider this surgery.

I am not lacking a chin. But for people who really do lack a chin I'm sure it can help their self esteem. I don't see how a chin implant can help the sagging jowls of age though.

What's the point of it, exactly? To indulge in false imaginings of immortality? I can't believe people risk all manner of bodily harm in order to aspire to an unachievable ideal. God, for a smart species, we are truly dumb sometimes.

Of course I would, if it was something that really bothered me. Young people are way too quick to criticize this type of thing, wait til you get older, have the money and have to compete in the workplace with younger people. Many will change their mind, it gives you a better sense of self and more confidence. Geez, its not like open heart surgery, get a grip!!

...So you would rather die than surgically alter your appearance, if it could help you feel better about yourself?
It's good to be secure about yourself, but it's quite another thing to judge others for feeling insecure about themselves.

Im an RN, youre not gonna die from chin implant surgery, chances are greater from having your wisdom teeth removed. And who is judging who?

She said she'd rather be shot... perhaps saying "you'd rather die" was a bit of an exaggeration.

Exactly... I was responding to her remark. I think it's rather foolish that she would rather be shot than undergo a relatively minor surgery, if it could help her feel better about herself.

I have a tiny lower jaw and would love a chin if for no other reasoon than to fill out the skin in my neck. However, I remember the one Michael Jackson goot that never did stay in one place and that turns me off. I'd have to know for sure it was tacked down good enough and I've a nasty feeling that would involve bailing wire up through the dental mucosa and around the jaw between molars and back out again into the prosthesis.... um... 2nd thought, no thanks...
