It now costs an average of $27,021 to get hitched in America, according to a new survey -- and that doesn't even include the honeymoon. TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com conducted a survey of 18,000 U.S. couples 18 or older who married in 2011, and found that the average wedding budget has increased year over year for the first time since 2008, ABC News reports. The average price tag was $26,985 in 2010 and $28,385 in 2009.

The survey showed that the average amount spent on each guest was $196 (that's a lot to blow on Uncle Al), and revealed that the wedding venue or reception hall was the most expensive budget item at $12,116.
But, according to the survey, fewer brides (29 percent) said the economy affected their wedding budget, compared to 31 percent in 2010 and 34 percent in 2009. This seems to be an indicator that the economy is getting better -- but we're sure these brides will have some serious debts to pay after the big day is over!

The 99 percent-ers in New York City spend the most on their weddings -- a whopping $65,824 -- and on their dresses ($2,403). Want to save a buck on your nups? Head down to North or South Dakota, where brides spent the least on their dresses ($745). Do you think $27,021 is too much or too little to spend on a wedding? Or just the right amount?

Parents spending so much money on a few hours that they could've invested in their child's future is irresponsible. We always say, "It's the litlle things that count." Keep the wedding small and intimate, since it's the relationship between the two people that really is the focus of the circus. Everyone else is really just a guest.

Second wedding, outside, with our horses decorated in flowers, fun, easy going, total was about $2000, everyone had a good time. An artist did a beautiful painting of me in my dress on my mare w/ flowers in her mane and tail. She did this from a photo someone took, I only saw the painting once, but it was very elegant.
3rd wedding less than $1,000. Beautiful dress on sale, married in a gorgeous location outside, paid a friend to take the pics, and she and her hubby were the only guests. Had a reception later, no cooking this time, no worries about the BBQ working... just got those trays from costco w/ sandwiches, cold cuts, etc... cheesecakes from costco, lots to drink, paper plates, and went to a very pretty park. It was perfect. And everyone was happy! :)
my dream wedding has always been under a gazebo (sp?), and as cheap as i can get it XD
On the other hand, there are drive-thru chapels, or JP's. Only a couple hundred bucks there...up to a grand, maybe.
Think smart even if I had almost 30 grand laying around the LAST thing I would do was to spend almost the whole thing on one day! I'd save 99% of it, and spend 1% on the wedding. People are too careless with money. I know it's a special day that you want to remember but it's not how much money you spend it's who you're spending time with, that makes it memorable!
I don't need a ring, dress, and huge ceremony anyway to be with the one I love. :)
It should be a nice day, but it shouldn't break the bank.
