I think most of the public wouldn't understand a lot of the details, so there wouldn't be much point in publishing them. Also, whoever IS allowed the details should be thoroughly screened.

One lesson that science as a discipline has never learned is that just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something. This is a classic example, creating something could kill billions just for the sake of seeing what would happen. Curiosity killed the cat and now its coming for us.

The only way we can control numbers is wars or the random natural disaster and disease . Im not so sure governments dont engineer disease to reduce population density in the third world .

Like Reagan and AIDS is rumoured to have been, but in a selective manner related to his prejudices. I'm not saying that that was the case, I'm not into conspiracy theories. But I wondered what you thought about that one.

The first recorded case was 1957 in NYC a mishionery who had lived in Africa died with a number of strange symtoms . His body was exhumed in the mid 1990s and they confirmed he had died of AIDS. So this may have been a plant to through off suspicion if so they really muddied up the conspiracy waters.

I think the official line is that HIV is a mutation of an immune deficiency virus that was peculiar to monkeys in Africa which got into the human population as a result of people eating or having sex with monkeys. It then further mutated to enable it to be spread between humans.

    Idiot scientists !!

Instead of using their time and brain power, to come up with a cure for all the many DEADLY diseases that the planet ALREADY HAS, these Dumb A**ES create another one.

And they're supposed to be the "SMART" ones????????????????

H5N1 was in an experimental vaccine which was sent to 18 countries by Baxter, and when it was tested on ferrets, they died:

It looks like that happened back in 2009. I hadn't heard of it before. Thanks for the info. I wonder if the ferrets passed the virus from one to another. That's what has now happened in The Netherlands, and it proves that the virus could become capable of being passed around among humans, which is something it can't currently do.

Reminds me of something like in the book The Andromeda Strain, save that virus was from outer space. This is scarier because it's not.

pretty scary ... maybe the best thing is to quarantine the researchers and the research studies and [censored - classified information] so that none of it can possibly be used against anybody at any time.

I think in this case the research was carried to establish whether or not the bird-flu virus might be capable of mutating to the extent that it could be transmitted between mammals, including humans. Now they know it could do so unaided, the race must be on to find a vaccine and/or a cure in case it does.

I doubt the Dutch would be into such an activity. Some other nations I can think of, yes, but not The Netherlands, in my opinion.
