They have often been painful. I was a child that thought about everything. That can be very threatening to people that only repeat what someone has spoonfed them. This certainly did not go over well in my religious community. I asked the question around the age of 11 why God would condemn someone to hell who had never heard of Jesus. That just didn't make sense of the God that I knew loved me. I wad told by my wonderful teacher that I was going to hell for asking questions like that. At that moment I emotionally divorced myself from the Church, but never from God. I also never forgot the wonderful teachings of Christ. I just new I wanted nothing to do with that small minded mentality, I suspected there were many people I would someday want to have as my friends and I'd want to know about their lives and I'd want to love them just as I knew Jesus would want me to do.
The person I am today was "born again" in that Church at the age of 11. I never looked back.
I am now blessed to have friends from everywhere that I love dearly. I will stand up for all of them.
Thank God 98% of my Christian Experiences have been good,OTHER Christians how have yours been?

Questions never fazed them :)
Where I grew up in Appalachia it was bad enough that i was a thinking child, but I was of all horrors a thinking female child.
I have been aware for a long time now of the awsomeness of my parents and how good I lucked out!
The worst for me was when my Dad and Stepmother were assigned to a small church (Dad's a preacher) there seemed to be a tiny minority. That did not welcome my Stepmother because she isn't Caucasian. The congregation as a whole were good people and generous, made the family feel more than welcome. When my half siblings from Brazil came to visit, my dad asked for some used warm clothes and jackets for the kids to use during their visit because they didn't own any. Brazilians just don't buy warm clothes much.
So anyhow, there was this huge pile of *BRAND NEW* sweaters and jackets and coats and mittens and gloves and snowpants and... well, you get the picture.
But then my dad brought me into his office, closed the door, and showed me something I have never before seen in my life and hope to never see again. A hate Christmas card. With racial overtones and threats of violence.
I choose to think of that generous pile of new winter clothes when I think of that Church, but in the corner of my thought there always lurks...
:(
Which is why I *give* new and good quality stuff when donating! Edit: I want to be like the best of those guys
