Designer department store collaborations have been the latest rage, and everyone is doing it, from Macy's and Karl Lagerfeld to H & M and Versace. Target has had many extremely successful collaborations over the past couple of years, and they just announced what might be the most promising one yet.
This holiday season, they will be partnering with Neiman Marcus to release a holiday collection comprised of pieces created by 24 different designers. Are you excited to see what they come up with? Or is mixing high fashion with thrifty stores not your thing?

The bulk of Neiman's customers, like taxpayers are in the middle class. Likewise, the bulk of Target's customers are in the middle class. The target the same customer base, but overhead costs differ significantly. This affords them the opportunity to sell at a profit instead of taking a loss to clear the shelves for the next cycle.
Does that make sense?
If you are in merchandising, it is imperative that you know your customer. Granted, the middle class customer does not buy their kid's school clothes there. They do, however, buy some pretty nice things for themselves. Yes, they have some very high end items, but what pays the overhead are middle class.
The velocity of turnover determines what keeps the lights on. The really big stuff is icing on the cake.
