Have you heard about the "tanning mom" yet? Patricia Krentcil of New Jersey has been accused of taking her 6-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, causing skin burns ... but she says she's innocent and her critics are "jealous."

"I'm innocent and it's proven... I would never -- never -- put my daughter in a tanning booth. We go out shopping. That's what we do," Krentcil told TMZ on Thursday. "Any mother that makes an accusation about me is not a mother, because I'm a great mother and I would never do that to my child." When asked by TMZ if she's the target of a witch hunt, Krentcil replied: "Yes. Yes. There's somebody out there on my whole life that doesn't like me because they're jealous, they're fat and they're ugly."
Krentcil does have some people on her side, though. The owner of City Tropics Salon in Nutley said employees who were there that day told him the girl remained outside with her father and brother and didn't go into the tanning booth while Krentcil was inside,
CBS and The Associated Press report. New Jersey state law prohibits anyone under 14 from using a tanning salon.
Krentcil, who faces a second-degree child endangerment charge, pleaded not guilty in Newark Municipal Court on Wednesday morning; she's now free on a $2,500 cash bond. Police told The Nutley Sun newspaper they were called to the child's school April 24 because the kindergartner was in pain from a "pretty severe sunburn," and that she was complaining of itching, saying she had been to a tanning salon with her mom. Krentcil says her little girl got a sunburn from being outside on a warm day.
But the kid doesn't look like she's been tanning, possibly trying to impress someone with a story of tanning instead of having a minor sunburn from being out playing.
Lips, ears, nose all tan at differnt rates. All seem to be evenly tanned.

She was responding to a TMZ reporter who asked Krentcil if she consider the case to be a witch hunt. In other words, she was responding to those who are attempting to convict her of a second-degree child endangerment charge. These are the ones she considers jealous, fat and ugly.
Krentcil’s comment about her accusers is a series of ad hominems. Neither the weight nor the appearance of her accusers is relevant. Likewise, the suggestion that envy is motivating the prosecution is absurd. Seriously, what does the defendant possess that could elicit jealousy in the prosecution?
I don’t know if Krentcil is guilty of child endangerment. That is something for a court to determine. Personally, I hope for the sake of the child that she is innocent of any wrong doing.
The only thing I am sure she is guilty of is being both shallow and superficial. This, however, is not a criminal act.
It is interesting that some forms of alteration (tanning, body building and female breast augmentation) are considered within the norm; yet other forms of alteration (face tattoos, extensive piercings, etc.) are considered taboo.
In nature, strong men do not look like Arnold Schwarzenegger and pretty women do not look like Pamela Anderson. But I digress.
You are correct in observing that excessive exposure to ultra violet light can cause cancer. She seems oblivious or indifferent to this fact. I know that I was indifferent to the harm I was causing myself for the twenty years I smoked cigarettes. It is difficult to be objective about ones own actions.
I just went off on a rant. Sorry about that.
During the satanic panic of the eighties, young children related to law enforcement agencies all sorts of wild, confabulated stories. Some claimed that they were taken to impossible subterranean caverns beneath their day care centers where they were subjected to ritualized satanic abuse. One young person actually claimed to have been victimized by Chuck Norris.
After months of investigation and the ruination of many lives, it was determined that children like to tell grown ups what they wish to hear.
There are highly specialized techniques for interviewing very young children. These techniques take into account a child’s innocent tendency to creatively embellish. The vast majority of school nurses and law enforcement personnel are not trained in these techniques.
This does not mean that law enforcement agencies should ignore claims made by children of abuse. With young children, however, law enforcement agencies must seek out and find corroborating evidence. In this case, they could interview the other adults w...

This does not mean that law enforcement agencies should ignore claims made by children of abuse. With young children, however, law enforcement agencies must seek out and find corroborating evidence. In this case, they could interview the other adults who frequently visit the tanning salon. The officers could also speak to all of the employees of the tanning salon.
The worse thing that could happen would be for the prosecution to attempt to use the child against the mother. Different adults pressuring the child to tell the truth would not healthy for the child. In fact, I suspect it could be more damaging than the ultraviolet lights.
My whole point was that young children are poor eye witnesses. The child in question has already told two conflicting narratives. One of these narratives is not true.
What an idiot....
