Have you heard about the "tanning mom" yet? Patricia Krentcil of New Jersey has been accused of taking her 6-year-old daughter into a tanning booth, causing skin burns ... but she says she's innocent and her critics are "jealous."

tanning mom

"I'm innocent and it's proven... I would never -- never -- put my daughter in a tanning booth. We go out shopping. That's what we do," Krentcil told TMZ on Thursday. "Any mother that makes an accusation about me is not a mother, because I'm a great mother and I would never do that to my child." When asked by TMZ if she's the target of a witch hunt, Krentcil replied: "Yes. Yes. There's somebody out there on my whole life that doesn't like me because they're jealous, they're fat and they're ugly."

Krentcil does have some people on her side, though. The owner of City Tropics Salon in Nutley said employees who were there that day told him the girl remained outside with her father and brother and didn't go into the tanning booth while Krentcil was inside, CBS and The Associated Press report. New Jersey state law prohibits anyone under 14 from using a tanning salon.

Krentcil, who faces a second-degree child endangerment charge, pleaded not guilty in Newark Municipal Court on Wednesday morning; she's now free on a $2,500 cash bond. Police told The Nutley Sun newspaper they were called to the child's school April 24 because the kindergartner was in pain from a "pretty severe sunburn," and that she was complaining of itching, saying she had been to a tanning salon with her mom. Krentcil says her little girl got a sunburn from being outside on a warm day.

This is one of those times when, why even bother justifiying? I mean she thinks she looks good? she looks freaking scary, honestly. She makes Jersey Shore look good. If she really did that to her child, which I'm assuming is likely, then she has issues and the law needs to step in ASAP. Ruin your own skin, your own life, but not your young, innocent daughters, don't drag her down with you. This women takes this chart to a whole new level of unneccasarily tan. jersey shore tan

The mother can tan and more than likely the daughter cannot. I do not think the mother is attractive.

I believe that her daughter was only in the room, but those vertical tanning booths don't seal around the individual.
There is an open left that allows the UV to escape into the room.
That would be plenty to damage the skin of her daughter, given how fair-skinned she is.
AS to the jealousy we are all supposedly experiencing, again I believe that she believes it.
She has a fairly serious mental problem driving her to harm her body so severely, and a very poor self-image. I feel bad for the wack-job.

Seriously...is she trying to be pre-pubescent Michael Jackson? Give her 10 years and she'll be on an "Avengers" remake as "Leatherface."

Split answer. She hasn't broken the law as far as we can tell. As for jealousy: hell no! She's clearly got issues. Her face looks like it's actually been permanently scorched!

HELL NO! The fact that I see 160+ votes were people who "do" believe this woman, I would say they are thinking from the side that would believe that all people and parents to be rational and "wouldn't" do something like this woman is being accused of. Look at this woman. She shows absolutely NO "good" judgment for her own well-being. She honestly "believes" that she looks good and that people are "jealous" of her. All the while, she is burning off her face. Why would you - ANY OF YOU - doubt that she would put her child in harms way, taking her tanning??? At the very least, this woman needs to see a psychiatrist for her own safety.

Mama may be nutz, but that's very separate from endangering her kid.

Besides, if that child with that lovely skin had been in a tanning booth for any time at all, she'd have awful burns.

Time to let this one go.

Innocent until proven guilty. She might be crazy, but that doesn't mean she'd hurt her daughter. Kids notoriously make up stories about copying their parents.

I DO believe she didn't put her daughter in the tanning bed, and is likely a good mother who loves her child, but I DON'T believe ANYone is jealous of this woman. She needs some serious mental intervention.

wow, although i don't approve of her life style choice, considering the law, and witnesses i would consider her Innocent of the charges. I would instead check her into a mental hospital as a danger to her self as a long term suicide risk via UV exposure....

Read the article, the employees are saying the accusations are false! You people on a witch hunt because of how awful she looks is ridiculous, you don't need to take away her child just because she does this to herself.

The employees are not a disinterested third party here... She probably accounts for 50% of their revenue! We must be very careful with what they say. They have a reason to lie.

I am a mom of four and I can tell you that what you do everyday your child sees, remembers and will incorporate into her own life in the future. There will be times in your own life when you look back and say I am acting just like my mom. That girl may not tan to the extreme that her mother does but making dangerous health choices, doing things to such extreme, yes that is something that this girl will do

So parents that aren't health conscious shouldn't have kids? That's ludicrous! Think how many children will be misplaced. Sorry kiddo your mom is a wacko (most parents are) you'll be fine like the rest of "us". I still find it hard to believe that the employees, her father, and her own mother think anything good would come of putting a small girl into those tanning rooms. She probably honestly thinks a tanning bed means you got a tan because of course that's what she sees her mother do. Worry for your own children, that's who my top concerns go to. My mother raised me to believe you cannot always get involved in the matters of others.

Did I say that,no, what i said was that this child will copy some aspect of her mothers behavour just as you will do so or have done so. this woman is not just getting a tan, it has gone to extreme, something that borders on obsession, no where did I say I thought the child should be taken away from the mother. Every parent has something, does something, says something that they later wish they hadn't this mom is having her dirty laundry drying out in public, but you support my statement that parents do affects the children, which was my point, not that I wish to have the child taken away that is your interpretation of what i said
